Been trying to leave me current bb provider for 10 weeks now but they just wont cough up my MAC. Today i recived this email

We are having problems obtaining your MAC code from our network provider and
cannot guarantee how long this will take and whether we will be able to obtain
one at all.

Would you prefer a cease instead, we can normally complete a cease within 10
working days?

Is there any legal requirment for them to give me a MAC within a certain peroid and if there is what can i do. Ive already complained to ofcom.

and should i take them up on their offer im gonna have some downtime but atleast i get rid of them?

thx

Nope, no legal requirement to give you a MAC code.

If the cease takes 10 days then I assume that means 10 days for all traces of the ADSL to be removed from your line. You then have to go through the provisioning again which will take 5 days or so. Depending which ISP you go to, you may need to pay the activation fee again too.

Unless you're in a mad rush to migrate, I'd stay put and hold out for the MAC code as you'll save downtime and probably a £58.75 activation fee too.

As far as I'm aware the use of MAC codes is purely voluntary - it's just that most ISP's have signed up to use them to make life easier all around.
The problem with a cease is that you've got downtime.
Once your line is no longer ADSL enabled you have to wait for the BT checker to reflect this before you can order ADSL from another ISP.
You could be looking at 2 weeks of no ADSL, possibly even longer.
