Hi Guys,

I am in the process of building my rig:
My parts:
I have a few questions however...

Firstly, I am having some trouble connecting the different parts..

1) Do I use AC'97 or HDAudio?

2)
The 20 Pin connector slots in very well... but the 4 Pin doesn't seem to want to go in...

Any reasons behind this? Or do i really just have to force it?

3)
Seems I have some extra connectors on each of my fans. What am I meant to do with these?

4)

My IO shield and Mobo are misalined. I figured once I got the computer to post / up and running, I could just readjust my screws/standoffs.

5)
I am not really sure what else I have left to connect. I know the pics are not HQ but can anyone suggest anything I have done wrong.

6)
Where does this red ATA cable go?

7)
Does it matter what SATA ports I use for SSD, HDD, and Optical?

Thanks Overclockers!!!

1). AC97

2). If you look at the 4pin it has two little "knobs" sticking out, these need to go under the edges on the top of plastic part of the 20pin, where is should 'clip'. Then it fits in nice and easy. (Sorry for poor description, slightly hungover :()

3). Nothing, they're just adapters and for things like fan controllers or running another fan off that power line.

4). Motherboard isn't aligned properly would be my guess, sure you have standoffs in right place and screws in tight? Might be worth just undoing screws, and making sure you push mobo down and left so it aligns then screw in :p

5). 4-pin needs to be connected - that's all I can see from that limited shot that is also very blurry! I assume you've plugged in all the front panel stuff? And the CPU 8pin power? (Its two 4 pins in your case).

6). Where is the SATA cable coming from in the first place?

7). No, but generally boot drive goes in port #2, HDD in port #3 and optical in port#1 - saves you having to change boot order in BIOS

1) OK thankyou
2)Will do, I think I have it sorted
3) Ok... but I don't understand where the 4 pin fan pieces are supposed to go..

I see Sysfan 1-4.. but those are only 3 pin receivers

4) Darn... I am sure that no part of the mobo is touchng the case.. should I really take it apart again :o

5) I believe so yes.

6) It is a red cable coming from the case. It says ATA on it and looks like the end of a SATA cable.

7) Ahh I am not fussed about that I just want the computer to boot!

Last question... which VGA adapter/cable should I use to connect to my brand new sony 23'

Ok I switched the power on via the wall and nothing happened. No fans or anything. Then I pressed power on on the mobo and it illuminated green but nothing happened. Maybe I have not connected the front of my case (power button) to mobo?

i got it for £615 so it wasnt a major lose really.....

and it was an awesome chip.... very fast.im going to wait till ivy bridge now then build a super rig which gives me 6 months or so to get the buisness back on track :)

on topic :

how stupid are you going to feel if you power on an your machine goes bang?
just because you were impatient and didnt want to check...

Ok... I guess I am going back to taking it apart again then!

Have you installed the chipset drivers?

also what else isn't working?

it is so odd
the ethernet cable works at like 1/100th the speed it should. I wonder if it got partly fried..? (if possible)

My download speed is 7 kb/s as opposed it its 700 k/b on my laptop

I changed ethernet cables to see if the actual cable was broken but the problem persisted. I also tried changing ports on my router... but to no avail :(

Would buying a network card solve this problem?

can you go to control panel then device manager and check if theres ant yellow question marks around any of your hardware?....the first thing you need to do on a install of windows is install the drivers for the mobo stuff.....which gives you all the chipset ,usb ,pci express etc etc drivers...basically all the most important stuff your pc needs.....if you dont install these first and install say a netgear wireless card chances are it will run like a pile of poo

the only yellow mark is next to 'other devices'
it says unknown device and is not able to find a driver for it.

go to system device in device manager and open it up - there should be something called Intel Management Engine Interface listed there, I suspect that is your yellow icon and you wont be able to find it

I see it and tried updating it but it has told me that the device driver is up to date.

Darn. Ive tried both suggestions. It tells me that the drivers are up to date. then when I try to use the Disc to update the drivers of the 'unknown device' it cannot find any on the disc.
