After taking one year ( ) to process my application I have finally had my last interview today for the RAF. It was a brief interview with the AFCO Flight Lieutenant and was simply to make sure I'm still enthusiastic about joining. After a few simple questions and general overview I was given an offer of service and signed my life away.

Just thought Id mention this as I'm sure there are a few other member's in the application process or some who are considering a role in the RAF, so if you want to ask me for any advice then just fire away :)

I start training on the 2nd May and will be meeting "Andr3w" (other successful forum applicant) down there. Wish me luck/Flame away.

PS, I'll go get our boys back from Iran whilst I'm at it ;)

I remember the RAF recruited at my school. The nonce wearing his flight suit told us how the RAF were laying off 40k people over the next 10 years I believe.

This got me thinking. Is this meant to be recruiting? Telling people that others already in the force are being laid off?

Also, the RAF has some buzz about it. Doesn't it? Why is no one on these forums joining the Navy, the Army etc?

Obviously they didn't want you joining up. Makes sense.

Thats because they're filtering out all the carp and recruiting the best ;)

What role?

Intelligence... Add the word "Military" before that and you get an oxymoron right? :p

Considering signing my life away to! Some quick questions though. Whats the alpitude(sp) tests like, what questions maths, english is it massivly hard? Also health check, used to 'smoke' well been stopped for a while but just a bit worried about it.

That must be why they're recruiting you, right brother?

But of course! It wasn't exactly an easy role to enter, hence the process took over 1 year.

The level you need to attain in your aptitude varies greatly on the trade you are applying for. Unfortunately i threw away the sheet that gave the break down of requirements for each trade. As you would expect though, a cook isn't really required to score high but a more technical trade such as weapon systems operator or intel will require a higher score. To be quite honest, the tests were relatively simple.

With regards to smoking, it shouldn't matter, everyone is required to pass a fitness test anyway. This is also easy I might add (assuming you are fit now), you need to achieve 1.5 miles in 12mins

What trade, if any, are you interested in?

Best of luck, my stepbrother started training about a fortnight ago as a Weapons Systems Officer. Going through the basic training first, apparantly he gets 5000 calories a day in meals as the training is that physical at the moment

Best of luck to you chum.

I signed 10 years of my life away in the Roayl Navy , best 10 years of my life .Enjoy every momnet but grasp every opportunity as they don't come round in civvy street that often .

No offence meant or anything, that's just what comes to mind when I think of the navy lol.

Bods join the RAF cos they can wear a uniform that looks like they work for British Gas and when they actually have to go anywhere they stay in hotels hundreds of miles away from any action (and still get medals) :)

The only good thing about the RAF is that you seem to have the Armed Forces Quota of good looking women. However, I'm Army and most of our women are hippocrocopigs.

All 3 arms are taught to be combat soldiers first, however after working with all 3, who would you rather fix bayonets with, sombody that worrys if his riffle is going to fire next time he pulls the trigger (Army), or that the hotel he will be put up in has a mini bar (Navy, RAF)
Guys dont underestimate the the Army, we are the fighting force, how often do u see the Navy storming anything on Sky News. the RAF do there bit with there fast jets etc but its troops on the ground that count. I think that this may be a reason why the RAF and Navy have more people joining at the moment due to the less risk involved in operational therters.

Well done for joining the MI training is not easy to pass, best of luck.

how about the royal marines, last time i checked they werent part of the army and they got plenty of action. infact most of the deaths i seem to hear about in iraq etc are marine deaths (that may just be me though)
