In your opinion, what was the greatest console of all time?

I think the Dreamcast brought me the most pleasure. Has for bringing gaming to the masses wouldn't you say the Playstation did that not the PS2?

I can 100% definitely say the best console of all time is not one of this generations.

I would have to say Playstation.

I was a massive fan of fighting games, RPGs, and platformers.

I had Soul Blade, Destreyga, Evil Zone. The Tekkens!! All great fighting games!!

RPG wise, It saw the best. Final Fantasy 7-9. It saw Legend Of Dragoon, Suikoden, Breath of fire, Xenogears, Chronocross and Grandia!!

Survival horror, Resident evil 1 and 2, And 3? Parasite Eve, Silent Hill.

Action Games, Metal Gear Solid, All the Tombraider games, Fifth Element and Apocolypse(very similar games, Both good) Syphon Filter!

Test Drive games!! Gran Turismo was born!!

I'm sorry, but for me, Nothing touches the PSX, for what it brought to the table gaming wise. It was the best.

Dreamcast had quite a few good games on it too, come to think of it. Shenmue, Soul Calibur, Metropolis Street Racer, Virtua Tennis...

... Powerstone 1 & 2, Jet Set/Grind Radio, Rez, HOTD2, Samba De Amigo ... the Dreamcast was awesome :)

But the best, it has to be the N64.

Definately the original Playstastion for me, im more fond of the snes and dreamcast but the PS1 was awesome at the time. In terms of graphics, CD quality sound and the range of games available it was truly revolutionary and it felt like a quantum leap in terms of what had gone before it. The PS2 simply built on that foundation and never impressed me the way the original did.

This thread has me feeling all nostalgic. Proper wanting to get out the old games. :D

That's exactly what I've done. Shamefully, my Dreamcast and SNES look in poor conditions having suffered a few years under beds and in the loft. Both have yellowed, the SNES quite severly (it's brown, more so! :o). The AC adapter has died too, after being on it's last legs anyway prior to buying the N64.

The N64 looks in good nick; albeit dusty around the little vents and mouldings. The original controller stick is awful too. Thankfully my red and green pads are intact.

I've dusted the lot down, wiped clean. They'll get the baby wipe treatment later to really clean them up and try and get some compressed air on the case. Then it's down to the local independent games retailers for some second hand goodness!

Ah, good someone who knows. How do they play? Does MGS4 look better graphically than the trailers we've seen? Is Killzone 2 a radical rehaul over the equally anticipated Killzone? Is LBP better than I'm thinking it will be?

Does MSG let you kill people that you have knocked to the ground yet? Bought the 2nd one, tried it and couldn't do it so i never played it again!

Snes was the first console i really played so it is probably still the greatest in my eyes. So many great games and very often it was the first time i played that genre which made it extra special.

The PS/N64 are close behind as they help to reinvent so many games, especially with the analogue controllers.

2. Neo Geo AES - surely relative to its time of release, this was by far the most powerful console. Literally bringing the exact arcade experience to the home...the first arcade perfect machine. Massively expensive and elitist. The games had such character. King of Fighters '98 is one of the best beat 'em ups of all time. The Metal Slug series is just a classic. The Last Blade games are pure elegance. No console before or after could ever hold a torch to how good this looked...the perfect design aesthetics of the case and the MASSIVE cartridges were the coolest things to behold.

Still don't understand the massive love for the Neo Geo.

hmm in no particulat order

megadrive
GC
N64
Wii

never really fell for sony in a big way, I did own a ps1, ps2 but games didn't really grab me much.
