8xAA I get min 17fps...... 4xAA min 12fps....... 2xAA min 9fps... why?? I would have thought it would be the other way around

Edit: Thats using the crysis benchmark

The crysis benchmark doesnt represent gameplay so it really doesnt matter, it's the same here though, adding 2xAA increases my minimum framerate slightly, also for some reason changing to high performnace settings makes it worse.

It's a useless benckmark in general and for the game it ships with and is based on, whats even worse is reviews use it to compare cards.

Settings are......... 1024x768, Everything on high accept for shadows and post processing on medium, See sig for system

But something isnt right here cos when I had my x1900xt card crysis felt smoother, and the settings were......1024x768, 2xAA, Everything on high accept for shadows on low, post processing on medium, shaders medium. Here the benchmark from my x1900xt card....

I would thought the min frames would be a lot higher with my 3870 then with my x1900xt and the 3870 its quite chuggy in places, but my x1900xt card ran it real smooth all the way though crysis.. I will have a go with it on 8xAA cos the min frame rate is about the same as my x1900xt card

While we're on the subject of 'why on earth does this happen in crysis?', i've noticed if i turn off motion blur i actually get better framerates in ultra high than i do in high (this is on a 8800GT), which is... strange.

Wouldn't worry too much, imo. This game has had too much hype, and certain people will argue that its "The best game ever" till they're blue in the face, and make excuses for how it runs.

If its ok when you play it, then play it. Maybe turn the AA down. I finished the game before xmas, and I think one run through of Crysis is enough for me... Certainly wont be playing it "when the hardware has caught up". Just badly optimised.

Can you notice the difference with 8AA vs 4AA vs 2AA? I know thats quite low res so it probably shows up more.

TBH I find playing any FPS game single player more than once hard no matter the time between playing, you already know what gonna happen next no matter how open ended a game claims to be.

I dont notice any diff going from 4x to 8x, but I do going from 2x to 4x. The reason I am trying it on 8x, is cos the benchmark says it give better min fps, and it does appear to play a bit smoother with 8x:eek:

I thought crysis was a superb coded game, cos it ran superb on my x1900xt 512mb card, but Im a bit dissapointed with the performance from my 3870 running crysis:mad:

My theory is that diagonal lines are shorted than vertical ones(without aa) so it has to spend longer drawing the lines :D I know its stupid but at least I have theory /me sticks out tongue

Unless you play Deus Ex, that game is full of options all the way through the game and therea 4 different endings, it is an old game though, but it's a classic and worth playing :p
