Hi all,

Happen to have an old copy of Empire magazine, discussing the indy triology.

Personally I LOVED temple of doom, must have watched it about a 40+ times when I was little.

I can't believe that the creators thought I was almost a weak link the series, I thought it was the best. . . .

For me to. Lost Ark is fantastic, not a big fan of Temple of Doom, some nice set pieces (mine karts etc) but as a whole, it's pretty weak compared to the other two.

I think I got that issue of Empire. Its the only issue of Empire that I've got, and I probably got it because it was an Indy special. Anyway here's my order:
1. The Last Crusade
2. Raiders Of The Lost Ark
3. The Temple Of Doom
I've got the whole trilogy on DVD, ie the box set. It also comes with an extras DVD, which I haven't bothered to sit down and watch, as it has about 5 hours of Extras.

Does anyone remember the young Indianna Jones films / feature lengths?

I remmember them being ok actually.

Of the main three:

1. Last Crusdade / Raiders of the Lost Ark
3. Temple of Doom.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is actually much more violent than the others, suprisingly.

Definitely Raiders #1, then Last crusade close #2.

I think temple of doom is pretty damn dire to be honest, it's too cheesy.

My personal preference is for Last Crusade over Raiders of the Lost Ark, although it's a close decision.
Temple of Doom is a good film, but the other two are great.

Hard to choose between the first and last one!
But have to agree with everyone here that Temple of Doom is without a doubt the weakest point.

I'd probably at a push say Last Crusade is my fave, just because of Connery :)

Lost Ark is easily the best :)

Agreed, it's in a whole different league to the others. Any film that features a mahoosive concrete ball chasing the heroes is stunning, add to that the leading role snatching his hat from the falling, booby trapped door and you have just kicked it up a notch. ;)

Hard to separate the first and third films IMHO. That's not to say the second one is crap, because it isn't. The story just doesn't hook me like it did with the other two.

I love the atmosphere of Raiders - heavy with religious imagery as you'd expect given the nature of the artefact Indy and his rival Belloq are after. There are so many great bits in this film but there's three that are my favourites:

1) the scene in the marketplace - Indy is faced with a dude with a huge scimitar who's giving it all the fancy moves; Indy just draws his revolver and shoots him ... still makes me laugh to this day

2) when Indy is in the map room and has just placed the staff - the sun streams in the entrance and hits the headpiece; this whole sequence is just awesome, the visuals and the soundtrack

3) the sequence when the Nazis open the Ark - again it's all about the visual and aural impact; starts off spiritual and then turns horrific

The Indiana Jones trilogy is superb - I'm dead curious to see what they're going to do story-wise with the fourth one, given Harrison Ford's advancing years :p

Raiders is the best of the films.

Temple Of Doom seemed much better as a kid I have to say. It does have some very cool parts though.

the poisoning in the club at the beginning, the plane journey where the pilot leaves them to it, the spooky village where the stone's gone missing. the palace is good with the meal, the love/hate thing going while they are in their own rooms, that passage with all the bugs in it. after that, it really loses it a bit for me.

Last Crusade was a good film. they did the whole 'young Indiana' really well, and the race for the Grail is really well done.

i love these films. Spielberg said in a recent interview (about Indy4) that half of he success and magic of the films is down to the charm of Harrison Ford. have to admit, can't imagine it being half as a cool with anyone else.

Ford wasn't even the first choice if I remember correctly, someone else backed out at the last minute and Ford got the job because he had worked with Lucas before on Star Wars.
