Indie Game: The Movie

You're trolling surely?

Super Meat Boy? Braid? Fez?

Terrible games? Suppose you get wet for cookie cutter FPS games and yearly Fifa titles?

So yes there are some good indie games... but the vast majority of them are simple awful.

Looking at that list... More of them are better than worse... You do realize.. that it's ok for there to be bad indie games right..?

There are bad books, bad films, bad TV programs and believe it or not.. bad AAA games. You want every single indie game to be a shining beacon of perfection or something?

If you don't like indie games why the hell do you buy the indie bundles... which are for charity, at a price that costs them more money to process than they gain. :rolleyes: And if you don't like them, why troll a thread of people that do?

No, a movie about....indie game developers, why exactly?

You could say that about any movie documentary... Why not?

an indie game rarely has the money to splurge out on high graphics so they usually have to put a lot for effort into the story, game play/mechanics. I probably won't buy the film because documentaries just aren't my thing but they do need more exposure, the film can be nothing but a good thing.

Watched it last night and found it fascinating. Felt quite sorry for the FEZ developer, he seemed to be having a terrible time getting the game made.

There's also loads of extras of of talks with different indies and audio commentary of the film by Edmund Mcmillan (Super Meat Boy). Haven't had time to watch these yet.
Definetely worth the £6.

Of all the games in that list, you didn't specify;
  • Super Meat Boy
  • Braid
  • FEZ
Neither did you specify any titles such as;
  • Amnesia
  • Bastion
  • The Binding of Issac
  • BIT.TRIP RUNNER
  • Machinarium
  • Magicka
  • Terraria
... all of which have all been critically acclaimed and are more than welcome to stay in my Steam library.

I suggest that you give the titles I suggested a play and see why reviewers have been raving about them since release and also give the Indie Bundles more than just a quick glance over before donating you, single, lonely cent to charity and searching about them online before blindly buying them next time. You might find that no games in the bundles take your fancy thus making your donation of your hundredth of a dollar pointless in your view.

Off to watch it at a cinema screening tonght as part of Sheffield Doc/Fest... Mmm, spot the geek - lol

I am expecting round of applause at the end else I will be disappointed.

Watched it last night - very interesting! It's a little worrying that everything I've heard about how apparently 'full on' working in the games industry is appears to be proven true, except tenfold for an indie game company made up of only one or two people. The majority of the guys featured in the game were constant nervous wrecks, only apparently ever a few bad days away from actually killing themselves (!!).

I had to wonder, however, if the games industry (on a mainstream or indie level) is actually as manic and pressured as it seems from this film and the general perception of gamers, or whether games development just attracts a certain type of person, shall we say, those with psychological profiles more likely to render them quivering piles of jelly at the first sign of the smallest amount of pressure... most of them seemed to be your standard coder nerds, VERY intelligent but perhaps somewhat lacking in other ares (social skills etc) and they seemed to find it very hard to deal with the pressures of making a hit game.

Overall, beautifully shot, very tense at times (wondering if Phil Fish would murder somebody) and also quite emotional seeing these guys for whom video games are their entire lives finally realise their dreams of releasing a game and having it go on to be wildly successful (for an indie market).

An amazing experience, glad I watched with other like minded people at the cinema.

Many "LOL" moments, Phil Fish ones being the most memorable, although unsure if him saying he is going to kill himself/someone is intentionally funny. That guy really has been put through the mill.

A superb documentary.

And yes, there was a round of applause at the end which was nice to see ;)
