Hi guys,

I'm currently just venturing into the world of hi-fi, just about to buy a NAD C370 amp. I need some speakers too, and my boss has some Mission 703's that he'll sell to me, but info on them is thin on the ground. Does anyone know anything about them, or even better have a pair? Especially relating to sound quality, and how much I should be offering him?

Cheers!

By the looks of things they're the bigger brother to the 702e's. Whilst the 702e's were probably once ok, they're a bit dated now. Unless you're getting a bargain, don't bother.

I'm after some decent floor standers at xmas off the mrs, so I was going to get these in the meantime and maybe some Kef Q5's at Christmas. If I did buy them for £50, would I notice a huuuuuuuge leap in quality if I upgraded them to Q5's coupled with the C370?

I would listen to the Q5 first, i know they have got fantastic reviews but i demod them and hated them. your best bet is to go to a big dealer, and listen to lots of speakers.

listen to your ears not reviews

I demo'd the Q5's today, didn't like them. I listened to some Monitor Audio BR5's too, loved them! Going to see if I can grab a pair on the bay, but they're quite new I think so I'm not expecting to.

Not darn sarf
Your making it sounds like the 702e's are rubbish. They arent (i have a pair :p ). As far as floorstanders go there ok. Only problem I find is you need to crank them up a bit and they are a bit bassy.

And mine are on a NAD 314

Well, I bought them for £40, and I'm blown away. It's my first set of 'proper' hi-fi speakers and I didn't know that a system without a sub could sound so complete. I've just bought a C372 amp to drive them too, should be here by the end of the week!

I quite like the low end of them. I'm used to PC setups with subs so it's nice to still have bass in there, I always thought I was going to lose it totally.

I had a demo of some Monitor Audio BR5's through the week too. Does anyone have experience of these? It was quite a big room in the shop, and I can't tell how they will sound in my room.

Most PC "subs" really arn't subs at all. They are just ordinary woofers. Your easily going to get more bass output from a Hi-Fi system because you have 2 (or more) woofers! With floorstanders especially because of the extra enclosure volume. Not to mention the bass will be of far greater quality as it will be produced acoustically, rather than overly amplified to compensate for a lack of enclosure space and design. You should find your new setup much better all round. That amp is very nice, you could always upgrade speakers later and keep that amp if you wished :)
