How does it compare to the 280X?
The 7950s? A bit slower than a 280X:

If you meant the 7850 then the answer is quite a bit slower:

But then they're quite a bit cheaper too.
Sorry, I was talking about the 7950s compared to the 7970(280x).
Those mentioning a 7850gb just for media used are nuts . Its overkill. unless you got a really old pc
Would be pretty nice as a gaming HTPC, but just for playing movies etc...totally agree that's its massively over the top.
The reason they are dying is because they are installed right next to each other.......
Seriously do people have no common sense, how on earth does he think the card can cool itself when it has zero airflow for the fans.
Once again anyone running Crossfire or SLI with cards right next to each other, only the genuine reference coolers can perform in such close proximity to each other or watercooled cards.
Is the AMD Radeon gold reward, the AMD Settle space one?
Cracking prices, well done OcUK!
Prices have gone up since OP as most the stock is now nearly all sold out.![]()
I still remember how many people (inc me) had problems with these MSI 7950's at the time...![]()
What issues? I've had to undervolt my reference refurb in order to prevent the VRM overheating at stock clocks. In two minds about an RMA to be honest.
I've just reread this thread and I couldn't understand what I meant in some of my post. The 1 year I lived in a different country using different language made me forget a lot of stuff...Sounds like an RMA job.
Some useful links perhaps, lot more if you search for MSI and 7950 in the graphics sub-forum.
