Installed Memory 3.00GB (2.00 GB Usable)

I just looked at the BIOS on my Asus board and it so much easier.

Shouldn't need to change voltage if you are using the voltage from the sticker on the RAM.

Might be worth under clocking the RAM to 533, and setting looser timings 5-5-5-15 to test with.

Hey,

Currently running on 1GB fine with no problems. Trying to add second stick of the same RAM and its not posting.

I've noticed the timings on the new and old RAM are slightly different, as are the voltages ...

2.10V - 4-4-4-12 , 800mhz 6400C4 (Old)

1.90V 5-5-5-18, 800Mhz (New)

Both are Corsair XMS2 but slightly different versions the older pair being 2.1 and the new stick being 8.2. Wonder if its conflicting with what timings it wants and its causing one of the sticks to not be used?

Thanks I'll try that now. Reason I think that is because when you put in the two identical sticks it boots fine, but as soon as you introduce the third stick it won't boot.

So obviously there's a conflict between the RAM. I bought the exact same type of RAM bar it being a newer version to stop this from happening!

sounds like you are trying to mix this

and this

http://www.corsair.com/_datasheets/CM2X1024-6400.pdf

It's technically not the same ram since the *c4 can operate at 4-4-4-12@800mhz, whereas the standard one can only run at JEDEC standard (aka 5-5-5-18)

Definatly worth installing 1gb of 2.1v and one stick of 1.9v. If it detects 2gb, then the ram compatibility isnt an issue and lies elsewhere (What graphics card do you have btw?)

Hi sturmtruppe,

I use a 4870 Sapphire 512MB Graphics card, why you ask? I'll try your suggestion quickly now, but if I recall correctly my PC would'nt boot when I tried this. But I'll give it a go now :)

Ok, 1GB of 6400C4 and one stick of 6400 are working fine together. And Windows detects 2GB total fine? So surely this means the RAM is compatible?

I'd like to add that they are in the 1 and 3 DIMM slots if this would make any difference? I have 4 in total.
