Installing a Samsung 830 series SSD, AHCI or IDE ?

many motherboards these days ship with ahci as the default or its auto selected, worth checking and setting but also fixable afterwards with some pain.

ahci mode will enable various commands for efficent disk operation not supported in other modes but win 7 is pretty good at installing everthing you need and your mobo disk will make it easy as well unless its very out of date.

Unlike others I dont use the intel tools they have there own comptiblity issues and are not a must have.

ive never seen a board thats set to ahci mode at default?

they are set to ide for compatibility reasons, its then upto the user to set it to ahci if they need to,same thing for ram speed deafault is usually 1066mhz ect just so it has better chance of booting up without issues

had to set mine to ahci to get my sata drive on xp to work :)

otherwise ive heard raid mode is default which is also ahci mode....
