I have just bought a Creative Sound Blaster X FI xtreme gamer. I have put it in the PCI slot, however when i try to install the drivers it says no device found. I have looked at the card and it has a 4 pin slot.

Im guessing you need to plug something in there to get it working ??? but what. Sorry for the stupid questions but its my first sound card.

It does not need anything plugged into it.

Have you tried a different PCI slot?

What are the rest of your specs please :)

Core 2 duo e6600 2.4ghz
X1950 PRO
OCZ 520 watt
660 gigs hard drive space
2 gig ram
19 inch samsung monitor
windows vista business 32 bit

I cant turn my PC off as well.......since i put the sound card in.....

every time i try to install the drivers it says unable to detect sound device. Windows cant find it as well. Ive moved it to another PCI slot still no luck.

Asrock conroe esata2. I took the card to my mates house and put it in his PC. Windows did to detect it. However he had his on board sound enabled.

Im sure its working because when i put it in my PC and turn it off. windows turns off but the fans and lights in my PC carry on working.

Take the card out and it shuts down as normal.

I think you're in a bit of a muddle. If the card is detected in your mates system, I'd assume that it is working. However, in order to get an add-on soundcard sound card to work properly you need to disable the onbard sound in your BIOS. I know nothing about your board's BIOS but a common way of getting into the BIOS is to press the delete key whilst your system boots up. Once in BIOS you need to go the the appropriate page in BIOS to disable the onboard sound.

Your post is rather unclear, so I hope that I haven't misunderstood it, BUT you didn't try to plug the soundcard in whilst your system was running:eek:

When you say that the card is not detected, did you look in control panel/hardware/system. Sometimes, if you have driver or config issues you may find the soundcard listed as an unknown audio device with a yellow exclamation mark next to it. If this is the case and if you have disabled the onboard sound in BIOS, you simply right click on the device, choose uninstall and restart your system and hope that the card is picked up as a plug'n'play device and prompt you to install the drivers.

There other possibilities such as an IRQ conflict which, others may be prepared to help you with. However, you really must try to be clearer in your posts if you want help.

Goodbye and Good luck.:)

Sorry i was unclear.

Heres what i did:
Uninstalled the old on board drivers.
Turned them off in the BIOS.
Put the new sound card into the PCI slot
Installed the drivers
Message pops up saying device was not found.

I checked in device manager and no new hardware was found when i scanned for it.

So i took it to my friends house and put it his PC. His pc COULD NOT detect the sound card as well.

Also when i have the sound card in my PC, and turn off my computer, windows will Shut down but the lights and fans in my pc stay on.

I asked a local computer guy and he said the card sounds broken.

Hope thats more clear.

card sounds broken to me

you got any other things that use PCI slots that u could try? , to make sure the slots are working

Does this have a power connecter on it? Like the one that uses a floppy power lead.

My Xfi must have a 4 pin floppy power connection to it.
