Hi all,

Asking this on behalf of a colleague

I see adaptors are available for this task... But then how do you access the ports on the graphics card?

The aim is to fit a graphics card into a very slim old case... The motherboard currently in the case has PCI slots that are already at 90 degrees to 'regular' but I'm not sure if you can get modern motherboards with PCIe connectors like that?

Any advice would be appreciated

He doesn't mind modding the case slightly for motherboard mounting points etc

90° in what orientation? So like laying the GPU flat on the motherboard or turning it so it's PCIe slot is along the IO panel?

The former

Yes, it will cover some other PCI slots that may be 'below' it but he doesn't mind

This project overall may not work due to other aspects anyway, such as newer components requiring more power and space than older components

Ahh right, I get you. Sadly no mainstream motherboards that I know of have raised PCIe slots, so you will have to get either an adapter card or an adapter ribbon like you've mentioned.

The best bit about the ribbon is that you have a lot more flexibility on where you can place the card and you can still use the top PCIe slot to get maximum performance.

That's what you'll need, although it does look a little long.

I hope that answers what you need, otherwise just tell me to go away and stop annoying you :p

That's quite cool as it allows for flexible placement of the card... Will send this to my friend and see what he says :) Thanks!
