I currently have Windows 7 on a SSD and I have installed 2 new SSD's which I want to Raid0 together and use as a single data drive whilst keeping the original Windows drive as it is.

When I change SATA mode to RAID in the bios I am no longer able to boot from the windows drive.

Is there a way I can change the setting to RAID in the BIOS, create the new Raid0 drive with the 2 new SSD's whilst keeping my current windows drive as it is?

Thanks

Using Asus P8Z68-V/GEN3

Thanks for reply.

Ive just tried that and returned to the BIOS and switched to RAID mode and still doesnt boot.

I get the error "Restart and then Select a bootable device" even though the Windows drive is selected as the bootable drive in the BIOS.

One thing I havent done (when in RAID mode) is configured anything in the RAID setup utility (i was going to set up the RAID0 after I confirm windows still works!). Is there a way to set it as bootable in there WITHOUT deleting the data?

Are you pressing CTRL+I upon boot to configure the RAID?

If yes are you then are you making sure that your Windows drive is still the primary boot device within the BIOS upon boot?

I've just done exactly what you want to do and simply did the above.

Initially it wouldn't boot but it was because the Windows drive had for some reason removed itself from the boot priority list within the BIOS, I simply set it back as the primary device and all was good.

If you are going to use the 2 SSD's as a data drive, why are you even considering setting them up as Raid0 ? The last thing in the world to keep any important data on is a Raid0 array.

Because if he's anything like me there is nothing worth saving to worry about. I've got some apps and a few games installed on mine, thats it.

Everything that needs a backup is either on DVD or on my NAS with RAID5.

Also I've been using Raid0 since God was a lad and not for one single moment in all that time have I ever had a single issue.
