So it's my first SSD.

I'm going to be installing windows 7 on it.

Is there anything I need to do other than unbox it, plug it in and choose it during setup?

Do I need to do a firmware update or anything?

Windows 7 will do it all for you.

If you don't want to wait for new firmware, just go for it. I've got a 64GB with the current firmware (1819) installed. Installed Windows 7 months a go and haven't had any problems or slow downs since.

As long as you keep good, regular backups (which you should do anyway) then why not?

Edit - corrected typo in firmware version.

Current firmware is 1819 atm, there is a new one on the way as 1819 will slow down, a lot of folk downgrade to the non trim 1519 firmware and run wiper tool every couple of weeks to keep performance.

Excellent drives, i have one on order just waiting on the gfx card to arrive.

Just to be straight on the firmware;

1571 - Original firmware - does not support TRIM
1711 - First firmware update - withdrawn as caused corruption (must downgrade to 1571 before applying further firmware updates - destructive)
1819 - Current firmware - supports TRIM, some users experience performance degradation (non destructive upgrade from 1571)
xxxx - Next firmware release (due Jan 2010).

If you have 1571 or 1819 leave it until the new firmware is out. In the very unlikely event you receive a drive running 1711, flash back to 1571.
