Got an insurance claim going through at the momen. Someone hit my car while it was parked and drove off, a witness saw it and reported it to the police. The driver who hit my car has now admitted fault to his insurance company who have contacted me and offered to repair the car.

The problem is that my mot is due on friday (27/04) and tax on tuesday (01/05). The earliest I can have the car inspected in thursday.

The car is only valued at £2000 and estimates for the bodywork alone are coming in at £800 + there is damage to the wheel bearing. I am unsure as to whether the car will be written off so don't want to have the MOT done and pay for it to end up out of pocket.

Should I declare the car off road and ask for a courtesy car while awaiting their decision? Or just book MOT and hope?

Cheers.

Just declare it off the road, go to the dvla website and you can do it there, then when you want it taxed you just need to fill a form in. Can you get it to the workshop and leave it there, so it's not on the road?

I could bring it home after the inspection and then they could collect it on a truck if they are repairing it.

Do you think they would provide a car until they decide?

If they don't there is some company that will and then they claim off *** insurance. However I cant remember what it's called, so you'll need to ask or wait for someone who does.

Helphire.co.uk is the one AcidHell2 is thinking about.

As it's not your fault, then they will provide you with a courtesy car of equivalent spec to your car, rather than whatever bargain-basement car is still left by your insurance company.

Phoned insurance company and the car is being inspected on thursday and I will know the outcome on friday.

Will put mot back to monday and tax it then too, providing it hasn't been written off.
