Hey guys, i have a quick question.

At the moment i have a Honda CG 125 that i value at £1400 when i insure it. With 0NCB and a claim for fire damage my insurance is £500 to be expected. This is with provisional CBT.

I just got a quite for after i pass my test, for a 1999 Suzuki bandit 600... I was quoted £1400 as the cheapest; valuing the bike at £1600 :S.

Im confused as to why the insurance is so bloody high.

Any ideas?

What companies have you looked at?
im a young rider and my insurance was £850 TPFT on a gsxr600 at 18 years old. Im 19 now and its down to £730.

Have a look at H&R insurance, they have always given me the cheapest quotes.

Trying it now, what if i dont have a mobile phone? (Which i dont) they say you HAVE to have a mobile to get a quote.

Give them a made up number?

Most of my details for quotes aren't real, the only thing that is correct is:

Occupation/s
Age & sex
Address
Bike
Experience
License
NCB/Extra training
Where the bike is kept/security.

E-mail and phone numbers I make up. When I find a good quote I will then contact the company and change the incorrect details to correct ones. It saves me getting contacted and spammed by companies that can't do anything for me.

eBike came out cheapest for me recently.

If you're in Manchester that might make a large difference. I've seen plenty of people struggle to get good quotes there because of the perceived crime rate.

Thats wrong then, they shouldn't discriminate :/.

There goes the idea of getting a bigger bike...

That's not discrimination. That's the way insurance works, perceived risk. If there's lots of crime then it's likely you're going to become a victim of it which means a pay out from your insurer which has to stop itself going under.

Its still wrong, i have to move house to get a better deal on my insurance? I'd rather walk.

:/.

There are other options. Extra rider training, taking extra security precautions etc.

Life's not fair. New drivers will always get bent over by insurance companies because they present the biggest risk and also because they can get away with it.

Swallow your pride, pay your premium, ride safely, build up your NCB and enjoy gradually cheaper premiums each year.

To put it in perspective I'm looking at similar (£1500) for a ZX6R as a first bike with 0 experience & 0NCB. Next year providing I don't bin it it'll be around £5-600 according to quotes I've done with a years NCB & experience.

If I do the IAM course then it comes down to £1250, the course costs £130 so will get £120 back.

Expensive quote is expensive. How old are you OP? that is the only reason why I can think that insuring a 600 bandit would be so costly!

That's scary money.

I passed my DAS 1st Septembe last year and jumped straight on a CBR600... insurance was £340 for the year including breakdown.

Swapped to a ZZR1100 in december... had to pay an extra £60 to finish the year.

It only creaped up when I got my Triumph Daytona 955i... but that's because the value went up and I wanted it fully comp... extra £90 for the remaining 5 months.

The quotes you're getting are bonkers! Have you thought about getting extra security devices?

My quotes are with a Datatool C4, and a big chain. It'll be ground anchored and covered too and parked behind my car. The previous model is around £3-400 cheaper to insure.
