insurance increase - 3 points for talking on mobile

Are you sure about this? Its classed under "Construction and Use Offences" on the DVLA site and not careles driving which are CD offenses. For example CD10 is driving without due care and attention.

Isn't driving whilst on phone Careless driving? I would say so. I'll ask my bro-in-law. He works in motor legal.

However, careless, wreckless, construction usage, call it what you want.. The best solution is not to do it all. You might get away with points and premiums but not necessarily from an accident which could be fatal.

Dude I totally understand but I felt my one was harsh because, as I said, I was pulled over with the engine running. Either way it happens... you commit your crime, you pay your price. So much so I didn't even bother posting it in here. Im'a just suck it up.

I feel in your case, providing you pull over to a safe area, then it would appear to be rather harsh. However, people do pullover where they aren't supposed to which can be just a dangerous and hazardous. I've always been of the opinion that no phone call is that important that warrants an answer when driving.

Online seems to say about 50-60 increase, gonna give them a call and see now....

Also stupid tickets, like the ones mentioned in this thread undermine respect for the whole system imo.

Without trying to cause undue offence, good, serves you right.

About time the police started fining idiots that use the phone while driving. If you want to use the phone, get a hands free kit, else stay off the damn thing.

No sympathy, sorry.

It was a fair cop, not complaining about it, and the police were really polite tbh.

Annoyed with myself cos it wasn't a personal call it was work related and even then not in a good way, was talking to a bell end panicking and stressing me out over job that had gone bad that we were both supposed to attend that day, in the end i went on my own, sorted it no problems and no need for 20 panicked phone calls from this guy and no need for the points :(

I got pulled twice for this in 2007 so had 2x CU80 that I had to tell my insurance this year. Quinn Direct added no extra cost whatsoever, Admiral + Churchill added about £200 on to a £500 ish premium. Some insurers wouldn't touch me (i.e doubled premiums etc)

I'm pretty sure if the phone is in a secure cradle, you are allowed to answer the call to loudspeaker otherwise a handsfree kit wouldn't be legal.

I prefer to just use a bluetooth headset now though, don't leave it in my ear though. Just leave it in the car/van paired and stick it in my tab and press answer!
