Hey guys. So my car is needing a respray but I'm not really sure if I want to spray it the same colour again. I'm thinking of going with a different colour and would like to know peoples experiences or knowledge of what insurance companies say to this?

I'm with admiral.

Will they allow it? Will they ask for more money because its a different colour?

Wouldnt think it would matter, you do realise a proper respray is approx £1500 though, right?

12 years ago i changed the colour of my escort van from white to green for about £20..

Mind you that was with a brush and hammerite, looked ok if you squinted from about 100 yards :p

So yes it can be done, cheap but badly :o :D

hmm 1500 quid. Dont worry about costs. But insurance company shouldnt have a problem then? Probably gonna get it done all matt black or something like that. Where's my power sander :p

You can get a GOOD finish using high-density rollers and enamels. I'm talking 5-foot finish.

But it's all in the prep-work and lots of thin coats.

*n

so you bought a car that you were struggling to get a quote on, that needs a full respray?

mental :]

anyway, i wouldnt think it would make to much difference.

I got my insurance. 1000 quid 10 month bonus accelerated. group 16 car for a 21 year old policy holder with no NCBs. Worked out quite well for me. I think I've said before that theres a lot of work to do on the car. Its goin in on friday to have the half the sills replaced and a new underside welded in. Waste of money? Maybe but its my money.

Anyway yea penski heard about the roller thing. And I truly understand it is in the prep work, makes life a whole lot easier.

Just talked to the insurance company. Premium is only affected if the colour is changed to a metallic type. So if I go with regular black there will be no problem.

That is the most bizarre thing I have ever heard.

They're a strange bunch.

I like Admiral, they are very reasonable for modifications.

Even if they did send me a letter today threatening to cancel my policy in 7 days unless I send them proof of my no claims and sign my acceptance of policy form...

a) My no claims was acrued with THEM...
b) Eh? A what? Never signed one of those in my life this is my 3rd year with Admiral..

You do need to inform the DVLA and change the V5 though.

They're ok.

Heard some people complain about evil cancellation rates and apparently there's something in the policy wording saying car must be MOT'd and Taxed, which is a bit naughty (assuming it's true).
