Insurance prices = WOW :|

If you have the experience you will not have trouble getting your Ceng through your chosen body, The engineering council states that if you do not have a masters then you can take the technical report route, which if you have the knowledge is it a lot quicker than going back to do the masters, unless of course you would like to do the masters but then that is different!
My understanding was that the technical report route was only really open to those with substantial experience (10+ years of experience) in a responsible position, so you couldn't just do your nominal 4 and then do a report?

You mean what you think I meant wasnt right. I'm well aware that Biology isn't a prerequisite for a medical degree. I just picked the closest A level to illustrate a point.

I know, but you were correcting him and your example wasn't factual...hence...ANYWAY, we've made our point.

I know, but you were correcting him and your example wasn't factual...hence..

My example was factual.

I could go and do a biology A level now and then claim to be a 'doctor'. I would be wrong.

That was my point. At no point did I say you needed a Biology A level to be a doctor, I simply said that his example was like somebody who was doing such an A level claiming to be a doctor.

You don't need a Diploma to be a Mechanical Engineer either, therefore my analogy was spot on and suited its intended purpose.

.ANYWAY, we've made our point.

I'm not sure you've quite made the point you think..

Then why didnt you pick doing an A Level in Media Studies?

Because Biology is associated with the human body.

Your example would be just as valid if you said "its like someone doing an A Level in Business Studies and claiming to be a doctor".

Since either A Levels won't get you into medical school.

Your sentence isn't factual because its the wrong course, you might as well said doing a degree in golf course design and claiming to be a lawyer. See my point? Golf course design won't get you to Law School. Similarly Biology won't get you into medical school.

What the heck am I doing? Stepping out of this thread now.

Fox is right as in, your're not what you are until you've got the job in the field.

More to the point, OP what are you going to do?

I had to pay €100 to get an inspection on my car as you can't get anything more than third party (not even F&T) on anything over 6 years old without mega effort.

So now I get to pay €1000 a year for TPFT on a 9 year old Z3.
I don't think it's all that bad in the UK ;)

Yes.

Biology is an A level associated with the human body, but not one that is required to be a doctor.

An engineering diploma is a diploma associated with engineering, but not one that is required to be a mechanical engineer.

Do you get it yet?

Your example would be just as valid if you said "its like someone doing an A Level in Business Studies and claiming to be a doctor".

I can't remember the last time I facepalmed as much as I am now.

Since either A Levels won't get you into medical school.

AND A DIPLOMA IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DOESNT MAKE YOU A MECHANICAL ENGINEER.

DUH?

Your sentence isn't factual because its the wrong course, you might as well said doing a degree in golf course design and claiming to be a lawyer. See my point? Golf course design won't get you to Law School. Similarly Biology won't get you into medical school.

And guess what... Mech Eng DIPLOMA wont get you a job as a mechanical engineer, or even onto an engineering degree!

What the heck am I doing?

Making yourself look daft?

How did you manage to turn a perfectly valid throwaway analogy into a debate like this? I mean seriously?

ahaha, amazing.

I would. This wouldn't be the first time you've fallen hook, line and sinker ;)

15 year old fiesta 1.25 in blue = 3245
:confused::confused:

Find that hard to believe

Geeez, you kids nowadays! I recall insuring my first car (bright orange 1.0l Metro City) for £70.......

:D

Just doing a quick check with direct line, for a 1.25 '96 Fiesta for a 21yr old student/skilled worker in my street (an F area in Leeds on the insurance database) comes out at £1.7k for fully comp or £1.9k TPFT

I could post you my quote?

Fox, just for ***** and giggles send me a reg of a decent 530i and ill get a quotation. I did it with a Ferrari and an Evo last night just for the luls.

Better yet James. Ask Fox to give you how long he's held his licence, how many ncb's he has, and who's on his policy. Just so I can prove to him Bradford his absolute crap for insurance.

You don't need a reg for a car insurance quote.

I appreciate Bradford is a hellhole (So why live there :confused), I was saying location, NCB and license length is probably the factor here not just age.

I think the biggest factor personally is the area, i personally live in a nice town on the outskirts of bradford but im in the BD postal area so they class it as bradford although im closer to keighley and halifax?

I live here because i was born here, brought up here, and have a lot of friends who live very close, not only that i have an apprenticeship too.

EDIT: Managed to get my quote 800 pound cheeper out of pure luck, now 2900, if i worked on this i could get it close to 2k i recon.

*Cough* family that live in better post codes!

This, if all else fails and you're comfortable with it.

Bradford lol, the reason for high insurance is the amount of claims that occur here on a daily basis. Theres a claims company on nearly every corner.

Simple; get a car, stick 5 occupants in the car, crash the car, all 5 occupants claim for personal injury, £5k each = £25k.

It's annoying as it ruins it for the rest of us who like to stay legit, but what can you do eh?

I'm glad it's just your opinion because mine has gone down year on year since age 17 :)

It dropped by about 200 quid a year for my first 2 years. I was expecting a similar drop, another year old, another years ncb, A rated Postcode, but its stayed the same.

Interestingly, individual companies are quoting me around 150-200 more this year than they did last year. It was well advertised that insurance jumped 40% for young drivers last year, and I think the drop I was expecting has been cancelled out by this rise.

Motor forums I frequent, including this one, have several threads on how insurance, particularly for young drivers has seemingly jumped up a lot. That's because it has, or at least, it seems to me that it has :)

He isnt a mechanical engineer, he's part way through a diploma in 'mechanical engineering' at a college. This makes him a student, which is a higher risk occupation than a mechanical engineer.

It'll be a good 5+ years before he's actually an engineer, in the same way as somebody doing biology A level isnt a Doctor.

For cheap insurance, try something like a 106 XND or similar? Cars dont get much cheaper to insure.

That old ball and chain, eh Fox? :D :p
