Insurance provider changing policy without consent...

let me guess you're a male under 28, and the otehr insurance that's £20 more expensvie is either elephant, bell or diamond?

Already aware of this, a reason why I didn't go for cancelling .

I'm not going to speculate why they do it, or the legal stance. In my view there is something seriously wrong with their processes from an audit point of view, as they cannot 100% link those quotes with my account without bank/credit card information.

Using DOB / ADDRESS / NAME is not a concrete set of data points, and easily obtained in today's world from a plethora of sources.

So I will wait the 8 weeks, and inform the FOS that I'm still not happy despite them resolving the issue - Hopefully they are willing to proceed down my line of enquiry.

So?

I might quote for 5000 miles and 10000 miles and depending on the difference will decide whether to use the pool cars at work more often or less often.

I might have a driveway available but decide to leave it on the street and let someone else in the house use the driveway, or I might not.

There is nothing wrong with doing various quotes and exploring different options.

Insurance is all about averages. If the data shows that people who switch from driveway to road, have a loss performance that is more on par with people who park on a driveway, then nothing you say will change what insurers do. They work purely off data. You might say it is unfair to penalise you, but as long as they don't discriminate on gender, they are allowed to do anything else.

However, if the data doesn't show that, then they won't be concerned about people switching the answer on that question.

Another corrolative factor to be concerned about is that someone willing to game the system on one question may be doing it elsewhere. You've only just caught them on say mileage. If they are doing it for more serious questions you may just want these people completely off your book and leave them to other insurers.

edit:

I do think however that what the Admiral Group is doing is pretty poor customer service.

Fair play to you OP for pursuing it. Elephant (same company) did something similar to me, albeit it was applying an extra fee to cover mysterious points on my license. It took a conference call with the DVLA for them to remove the extra. I didn't pursue it further, thought in hindsight I wish I had. The insurance industry stinks enough as it is.

my opinion is you got caught in the net of people who are doing genuine quotes, unfortunately there are a lot of people who play the system, making it worse for the other motorist. Same with the whole car must be Taxed/insured or SORN, a lot of people who have seaonal vehicles got the rough end of the stick.

Admiral are trying to cut down the number of policies being set up with incorrect details.

Fingers crossed it goes the way you want it to OP, hasnt happened to me so if it did maybe i would feel different.

I'm with Bell (same company as Admiral/Elephant) and did loads of quotes when last changing my car with different job/miles/parking/mods/etc and haven't had any problems but this will make me think twice about trying any speculative quotes.

Hell id hate to have to try and convince them I didn't have any phantom modifications, it took me half a damn hour to convince mr India that Toyota did really sell Supras in the UK lol.
