Hi, right it's about NCB,

If I was to change companies now would building up for my NCB still count?

Eg: I have 9 months NCB with company 'x' atm if I was to change to company 'y' would i still get my 2nd years NCB come 12 months? Or do I have to stick with one company?

I'm getting a mixed bag of answers from different people?

Have I just bought my banger for no reason? (Nissan Micra :D:D, Pics later)

thanks,

Edit: Sorry could you move to motors :o

that's what I though but how pants is that!! Surely it should carry on and be based on the time without a claim!

Can you point me to a source so I have some hard evidence :p

thanks.

That's the way it is dude.

When you take out a new policy with a company, they will ask how many years NCB you have. You say you have X years NCB, and then when the policy comes through, they ask you to send in your written proof of NCB.

The only written proof you will get is on your renewal notice from your current company - i.e. after the full 12 months is up they send you the renewal, and your NCB will be increased by one year in the little NCB box on it. This document is what you send to the new company, and they will add it onto their system.

its 1 year with each insurer, so if you changed to a different policy it would have to run the 12 month term to get 1 years ncb, although you may be able to change the car on your policy in which case you would get your extra years ncb I would have thought.

Yes, theoretically you can change the car on a policy with the same insurance company.

I ran into trouble doing this though - back when I wanted my cavalier, my current insurers wouldn't insure me on it (19yo grp14 car), so I had to wait another 4 months until I got my renewal through before buying a car and switching insurers with my extra year of NCB.

timbob that's the situation i'm in.

My current insurer won't let me insure the car I want. So I've just bought a micra for £70 i will keep that on the drive with my current insurer until renewal.

Meanwhile i'm thinking of taking up short term insurance with the other car (the one i'm planning to buy) untill i have my 2nd years NCB and then I can insure it properly.
