Intel 12 Series De-Lid

Perhaps I’ve not explained what I mean really well.

Let me use a 3090 graphics card as an example, you could watercool it and have really low temps but you won’t be able to push it any further than you could on air.

You’re hitting the limit of the hardware long before you’re limited by temperatures.

Years ago you’d hit issues with temps which would stop you pushing further so you’d need to reduce them to be able to overclock more.

ermmm graphics cards have power limit restraints. CPU's dont

as an example a 12900k at 1.4v on water may hit 5.4ghz at the same voltage on Ln2 say at -180c will possibly hit 6ghz, temps mean a lot with cpu's

Ah ok fair enough.

I was aware that exotic cooling would enable cpus to reach massively high clock speeds.

I was under the assumption that everyday cooling wouldn’t enable far higher clock speeds, e.g a high end air cooler vs custom loop.

If I’ve got it wrong then it’s good to learn something new.

all depends on the cpu sample, some will react well some wont. going from AIO to custom water may net you 100hz, de lid maybe another 100hz, worth it to some, pointless to others.
