Intel - Anti-Competitive, Anti-Consumer, Anti-Technology.

Adored, Its not boring, i found it very interesting, I'm one of those people who knew about some of Intel's shady crap but i didn't know it went to anything like this extent.

Its a fantastic piece of journalism.

So many people are surprised by it because most people - even those who follow tech closely - aren't following it in this kind of detail. Many know that Intel are anti-competitive but without knowing why.

I actually think the video is a bit boring and far from being my best, but the reaction to it has been the best I've ever had by a long distance. The reason for that is that people just didn't know the depths of Intel's behaviour.

The video was top of the Intel Reddit for nearly 2 days and the vast majority of the posts there were in full agreement and pretty much in shock over how much Intel has got away with.
I've watched it through three times! I still think Intel have got away with this lightly - Intel spent $6b (to Dell alone) stifling competition from AMD and then paid AMD a consequential $1b in settlement, this seems somewhat pathetic in the grand scheme of things.

Public corporations seem to get away with it, those who are actually responsible and call the actual shots on behalf of the organization should be brought to justice as well at board level including the CEO's at the time. If this was a 'Limited' company legal proceedings would have been brought forward against directors of the company.

It is a quality vid and definitely not boring. Good work. :)

There was a lot more money changing hands too, though nothing else on par with Dell I think. HP must have got a lot though for them to turn down 1 million free CPUs, IBM were even involved in it (threats apparently, which really surprised me as IBM would have been much bigger than Intel at the time).

I forgot to point out that Dell did actually get fined, $100 million for them but it was for accounting fraud (i.e for not disclosing the Intel payments). Michael Dell himself and Rollins got fined $4 million. Otellini got nothing...

What a steaming pile of turd! They should be shut down or better still their profits from the last 15 years should be split 50/50 with AMD for the undue hardship they have endured.
Josh.

Isn't most of it just reading articles written at other websites, like Forbes and Ars ? I mean, he's literally reading out the articles that journalists have written verbatim.

I pretty much have lived though all this Intel stuff, and the fact is they are so big, and they have such marketshare and domination, that they can **** away a few billion doing this sort of thing, because in the ten years until the court case gets sorted, they've made hundreds of billions. The only solution to this kind of thing is to break the company up into smaller units, or put the people at the top in prison. Something no government seem to be willing to do. If all they are doing is getting fined a fraction of what they earn from this kind of behaviour, then it's always better for them to break the law, pay the fine, and pocket the profit.

I often get accused of slanting videos to suit an agenda but in this case it was too important to allow that accusation to hold any water. This is the first time I've used most of the sources word-for-word.

Much of the "difficulty" in a video like this is finding the information and also confirming that the information you've found is accurate and backed up by multiple sources. You'd be amazed at how often 30-minute videos can be taken apart due to one mistake. ;)

But again, I do agree that I thought it was quite boring in parts - it really was just me outing the evidence that was already there - but the thing here is that it was never really put across coherently and certainly never for the YouTube generation.

A lot of younger folk are probably not aware of what Intel did,and we need videos like this so people don't forget, and Adored use easily accessible sources,so people can check them up if they wanted to. Even I learnt new things(and I thought I was reasonably well read up on it too) - I am still shocked Intel hasn't still paid their EU fine let alone Bill Gates commenting on Intel too.

Time to move back to AMD. Good CPUs now and I've had my eyes opened.

Gonna throw my 5820k out the window :D

TBH, I though it was well pulled together, and the fact that you got a good "script" from the various sources actually made it work even though it was very talky. It's easy for Intel to get away with things because people forget how they've been doing it for decades when a court case drags on for years. Like you said, they've been holding back the market and reducing competition, illegally preventing other companies from bringing better products to the customer.

I'm embarassed to say that, as a Canadian, I sometimes (often) don't understand what AdoredTV is saying. He has quite an accent. (I realize to him I am the one with quite the accent).

His accent is hardly strong compared to say very heavy Glasgow accent. Or a heavy Georgie (Newcastle etc.). But compared to continental Germanic, English doesn't have that strong accents and not many real dialects. Don't remember the linguistic term*, but it is said that you could go from the coast of the Netherlands to South Tyrol and people from each village could understand the people from the next village but two speakers from both ends of this chain couldn't understand each other. Even excluding Dutch, the German can dialects are very extreme and the official German (Hochdeutsch) and especially the Swiss dialects are almost a totally different language.

The best/worst quote from that video was "Dell are the best friends money can buy" god my skin was crawling after I heard that.
Well, isn't the often heard quote about the US system 'the best democracy money can buy' due the amount of lobbing (aka bribing) which happens at all their levels of government? A lot of it is even 'above board' as no brown envelopes and is actually declared.

Yes, with those miniscule fines even very basic beancounting says that even if caught (unlikely if you have so much money for lawyers), the returns versus fines are just too good. Jail time might change this but is even less likely than meaningful fines and would be appealed until the plaintiff died of old age.

*EDIT: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dialect_continuum. Similar things apply to other areas as this image shows:

The Wikipedia does actually mention Scots and normal English as being the only pairs in the English area. But the strongest cases are when the vocabulary changes a lot (as those Swiss dialects do).

Funny as it looks like all those guys are reading from scripts or notes when they are plugging the Intel i7 processors. Very cringy to watch

Looks like they are employing different tactics now targeting the youtube generation as opposed to the vendors. At least it's legal this time.

Looks like Intel are hurting badly with all the positive AMD media coverage so they go out an buy some Twitch and youtube shills, figures.

God, that was cringe worthy to watch. The thing is though over the years Intel has come up with some good CPU's......................i've had plenty of them. But this sort populist crap just will not work in the long run. And anyway, who the xxxk are those guys in the first place ?
