Intel Ci7 950 or Phenom II X6 1100T

the new SB 1155 has been released but next 2 years it will be replace by next new CPU called "Haswell" but dont know which one will be same as 1155 or replace new pins -- the 1366 will be replace by new 2011 Socket R by Q3 2011

AMD AM3+ Bulldozer-based for Zambezi come out in Q2 2011 but next 2-3 years AMD developement new AM4 with new DDR4 as DDR4 come out in 2013.

It up to you to decide - I own AMD AM3 with X6 1100T that seem good run and my dad using 1090T that save my money rather spend too expensive as the VAT due come into 4th Jan.

As I said before if the OP is overclocking then a £150 to £160 Phenom II X6 1075T BE or Phenom II X6 1055T 95W is what they should be looking at getting.

The OP already has an SLI capable AM3+ motherboard so it will be a drop-in upgrade.

A cheap x58 motherboard and a Core i7 950 will be at least £325.

Edit!!

I wonder what CPU the OP already has in their motherboard??

If it is a Phenom II X4 I would get a decent cooler and overclock it.

This is all true.

But the dude has 3 GTX 580's! I dont think he is looking for the economical option.

The best is the i7. But, the phenom 6 core isnt too far behind.

If as stated above current mobo is am3 get the Phenom.

Even better would be to wait 1 week for Sandy Bridge to make an appearance!!

Frankly If it was me I would buy a 1090T and a good cooler if you do not already have one and clock it past 4.0 and buy a good 30" IPS to make use of that insane amount of GPU power.

Sandybridge is all well and good but if your sole purpose is gaming there comes a point when the returns just are not worth it. We are talking single digit frames on average. some games might show a slightly bigger gap but again on the average your not going to see a huge difference. The AMD setup is going to be just as "future-proof" if there is such a thing as the i7-950.

Again I would go for the 1090T and a bigger/better monitor. A 1090T will serve you well for the next couple years.
