Sticking my nose in, without reading all 12 pages, is any-one swapping out their 5930k@ 4.5 for any of these chips? Worth the swap?

Lol @ cooling device that tom had to use to cool down 7900
Like I thought. There £50 cheaper elsewhere. Naughty, naughty OCUK
Pretty sure OCUK have lowered the price on the website now from what it initially was haven't they?
I just threw a 7800k, Asus Strix E Gaming, 16Gb Team Group Dark T-Force and a Hydro H110i in the basket and it comes to £889.96.
No need for a special bracket from what i understand. It's the same as 2011 v3Does the Corsair H110i come with a x299 bracket?

I'd say not really.
If you want lots of multi-thread performance you should get AMD Threadripper in July/August.
If you want lots of single-thread performance you should wait for 6-core Coffeelake on the mainstream platform.
Skylake-X would only be attractive to someone with a 5930k if you have very deep pockets and want a balance of single/multi-thread by getting the 10-core $1000 chip. And a very beefy cooler to cope with its heat.
5820k yes, it's a J batch but i wouldn't put much faith in that, mine is probably an average clocker. Not bad though by any means and still decent.you're on a 5820k I guess? to be honest there's little point in upgrading as long as yours can OC well.
you've always got the option of a 5960x upgrade in the future, the J code ones seem to overclock better (last batch) and ive seem them go as low as £500 new on ebay.
but to be honest even swapping to a 5960x at 4.6ghz wouldn't change your minimums much, 6 cores is more than enough for gaming.
faster ram might help? some games in particular seem to love ram speed increases.

By beefy he means custom loop. AIO coolers are barely keeping it under 100c and thats in an air controlled office
Warm little buggers.
That's not full consumption but throttled one.I remember a certain poster claiming Ryzen TDPs were innacurate.

Interesting power consumption for 140W TDP chips.
With Coffee Lake being basically just rehashed Kaby Lake it's good bet that six core Coffee Lakes draw more power under full load at stock than 8 core Ryzen. The majority of people using this forum plus people who game and don't care much for more than 8 cores. It's an overclocking forum after all.
Yeah I think Linus' Skylake-X video mentioned that motherboards would be in the $300-500 range. I remember being horrified at forking out nearly £250 for mine 8 years ago. :/The last 3 years when I priced up an upgrade, that's how long I've been waiting to upgrade, it would be around £650. The big difference from then to now are the motherboard prices.

Having gone through the screaming deltas at 5000rpm 10 or 15 years back and latterly an FX9590 creating a sauna in the back bedroom, I have outgrown maxpowa for maximum cool or at least quiet.
