Intel Core Ultra 9 285k 'Arrow Lake' Discussion/News ("15th gen") on LGA-1851

Yeah they were directly asked this recently - they'd have 10000% said if LGA-1851 would be compatible with Nova Lake/Intel's X3D CPU, so we know it's 100% not.
greed brought policy of two generations per socket (and each has a new chipset to sell more boards)
poor engineering resulted in one gen per socket
this is worse than Rocket Lake

LGA-1700 ended up having 3 'generations', Alder Lake, Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh. Though this is out of stupidity rather than generosity from Intel.

I'm sure the motherboard vendors were furious with having to issue the millionth UEFI update for Z690 boards :D

That's one of my gripes with AMD. The boards are not very impressive for the money.

Z690/790 isn't really that impressive despite some good looking boards - PCI-e provisioning is pretty meh, only a few high end boards really push the boat out with tech - long dead seem the days where companies like DFI innovated on the LGA775 platform or Gigabyte was making boards with forward thinking features, etc.

It's such a shame that there's so many good Z890 boards while looking at amd boards just is meh in comparison.

That's one of my gripes with AM5, as I use an add-in 10GbE NIC (X550) as I have always found the Aquantia's 10Gb quite poor.

Another area is the poor selection of 2 DIMM boards, which is my normal go-to choice and then you have an issue of lack of PCIe X4 slots off the chipset. I think one of the only top-end boards with a PCIe x4 slot is the MSI Godlike (X870E). Yes, this is probably a rare example but something I use.

Yeah I got the notification of my x3d chip shipping soon but looking at boards is just a bit deflating. MSI z890i edge would be so good on amd.

Yes, and what people never take in to account is that prices will now shift, making the intel boards and CPU's far more competitive, but most people will still keep buying AMD.
not in a hurry was waiting to see how the talked about fixes work out for the new year , nearly jumped on am5 but at the end of the day my computer works fine and upgrading was just a four year itch thing

The vast majority of people will still buy Intel as has been the case forever and will remain so.

Gamers won't though. I wonder what proportion of sales are to gamers? I note that Asus are talking substantial cash back on their Z890 motherboards already.

I am about THE most loyal intel buyer there has ever been. But I am leaning towards AMD at the moment. I think the only reason I am waiting to see what intel come out with, in the next few weeks, is that the 9800X3D is sold out right now. Truth is, I can't believe that intel are going to recover this situation.

I do think that the reviewers have concentrated on very unrealistic tests. No enthusiast plays at 1080P and when you look at the 1440P then there is less reason to be so hyped about the 9800X3D. They are like the mainstream media now, they are looking for drama where there isn't any. Having said that, intel need to sort out the instabilities and weird results. At the moment it's not a rock solid CPU. It better be quick, though, because I am going to build a new PC within two months.

you confuse people on these forums with the normal user most people will rock old systems till they die ;)

I used to do that. I could never throw a system out. I would just "re-purpose" it. But I eventually realised that it was better to sell the parts on ebay and buy specific hardware for the job. Like I use intel T processors for media-PC's and NAS's and so on.
