Intel Core Ultra 9 285k 'Arrow Lake' Discussion/News ("15th gen") on LGA-1851

The issue is, if you see fps well above 100 in CP2077 you know the scene selection is complete crap. Can't trust a thing about the review because they're clearly clueless.

See here in real time the fps in a real scene with proper settings: https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2024-intel-core-ultra-9-285k-ultra-5-245k-review?page=4

Even the mighty 7800X3D can't do it.

Some weird goings on with hat benchmark, at 1080P the 14900K is 20% ahead, you would expect them to close up at 1440P, nope.... it flips with the 7800X3D now being 20% ahead, here's the kicker, there is little difference between the 1080P and 1440P runs for the 14900K, for the 7800X3D the 1440P run gets a huge boost in frame rates. To be clear the frame rates are much higher at 1440P than they are at 1080P.

This makes no flipping sense, this is the review you want us to trust? Its garbage mate.... :)

When you're looking for something that looks to tell a different story to the consensus and you find it there is probably reasons for it other than everyone else is doing it wrong.

there is something strange there between 1080p/1440p/4k perf in cp2077, doesn't make sense
but definitely all signs of a CPU limited scene

Not to insult anyone's intelligence here, you're all going to spot a troll post as soon as you see it, but.... i have a Ryzen 5800X, is it worth me upgrading for gaming?

Let your answers sink in for a moment, now to be clear i'm actually thinking for going this rout with DDR5.

IMO that's a dammed good chip for £250, its better than what i have, you cannot say that about the £300 245K and i don't think the £300 13700K is any better.
And the 7800X3D at over £400 now is starting to look daft.

This is the elephant in the room that tech tubers are ignoring, yes they are critical of the chip but i think that's because its not possible to gloss over this, its quite softball and disjointed from the real issue.
When Ryzen 9000 was reviewed they went hard on AMD for only being 5% better than previous gen, this is 10% worse, more below the £500 range.
The only thing Steve Burke had to say about the 5700X3D beating the 245K consistently was "but its an older platform with less IO" What that's it Steve? Yeah but no PCIe 5. Is that really all you have to say about all this? a platform 3 generations older is beating it in gaming and all you have to say is' yeah but here is a nonsensical reason as to why you don't want it.

Its like when they were soft balling ARC, yeah driver issues but misdirection... Intel are going to take over AMD's GPU marketshare, Really Steve, Really? Is that a fact or hope?

12900K is a bit of a sidegrade from 5800X honestly...
I would (and have) go for 9700X, especially now that its discounted

When you look back at the 9700X reviews you would think its the worst chip AMD launched since Bulldozer, by todays context Arrow Lake is the worst chip launched since Bulldozer, the 9700X looks pretty good, it is the best £300 gaming chip which in hindsight doesn't deserve the scolding it got.
They expected Arrow Lake to be much better than it is didn't they? That's why the mood from them is simply "disappointing" yeah they are disappointed.

nice - considering you don't have to get a new mobo, exceptional

Just import the 5700X3D and sell the 5800X for a similar amount, not a huge upgrade but a nice reduction in power and improved 1% lows, cost me £10 net all in.

I'd have to agree, esp with @humbug running an AMD card too. Proper SAM makes a difference!!

That is another idea i have, tho i would go for the 5800X3D and if i can find it second hand cheap i would, i'm comfortable buying used CPU's, i'm not snobby about that, CPU's don't tend to go wrong, Unlike GPU's which used are always a risk.

The 5800X3D has that bit more on the clocks vs the 5700X3D.

The truth is the 5800X is rock solid for my RX 7800 XT, its still such a good CPU it has no problems getting the most out of the GPU, that is for all but one game, i'll get to that.... the right choice to begin with.
When i upgrade the CPU i want to do my now usual 4/5 year future proofing cycle. That's why i'm musing a DDR5 platform.

At the same time i don't mind keeping this platform for another year or two, i like the motherboard, nothing wrong with it in any sense and what i will get on to now is Star Citizen, its an horrendously unoptimized game, still, and the 5800X3D helps a lot with that, to the tune of some 40%, which is mental....

I have a lot to think about and have given myself until January, see how things pan out... i was musing a new GPU for more than a year and glad i waited, the 7800 XT dropped and it was exactly what i was looking for.

Not in any rush.

It’s unlikely you’ll be able to find a 5800X3D used for what an imported 5700X3D goes for new, if you’re worried about clocks which isn’t a big deal as it’s really the Vcache you’re after then you can always OC the BCLK.

A 245K sits around a 12900K/13600K and a 5800X is around 13% slower.

A 245K is 14% slower than a 7800X3D that sits at the top of the charts so is a 7800X3D is a side grade as well.

You would have to be mad to change platforms for a 12900k for gaming. Just buy an AM4 x3d part.
It is madness though given all the general trash talking, trolling and **** posting about Intel he does it's hillarious. He even had to preface his post with its not trolling.

TPU tend to recycle old data, GN just renewed their entre benchmark suit and retested all CPU's with the Win 11 24H2 patch, they have the 5800X and 245K trading blows.
