Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

Much higher single threaded speed is what is keeping people interested in intel. Until there is something that can match it then this will continue to be the case.
You are getting 2 more cores and 4 more threads for your money.......

Your a little misleading there, much higher single threaded speed, over AMD sure, but not over the 7700k, its either the same or a little ahead, not *much higher* though. You are getting 2 more cores and 4 more threads for your money, again misleading, your statement is ambiguous, you neglect to mention you are paying more for the new I7 than the existing i7's, so you are paying for those cores, Intel is not suddenly saying "Oh hey guys, were giving away 2 free cores and 4 free threads with our new i7's at no additional cost".

No, Intel is making you pay for that extra performance, and forcing you into a new motherboard with an extremely limited life span.

The 8700K will undoubtedly reign as king for gaming for a while, but dont make it sound like its the holy grail messiah of chips they intel is bestowing upon us, its not, and the performance is at a price higher than the other i7's that came before it, proportionately so as well.

Yes we get it your disgusted with AMD after your experiences, but really, you need to let it go now and stop the harking on with false info on how great that new Intel chip is.

The 7700k, according to camelcamelcameluk launch price was £344.94, not significantly less than the 8700k
If you read my comment I said higher single core speed is what keeps people interested in intel. I never mentioned AMD.......
Same single thread speed as the current king of gaming CPU's aswell as matching the ryzen 7 in multi I'm not sure what everyone's problem is with this CPU.
People were asking for more cores, now they get them they are still not happy lol

Why would anyone be threatened.......what a bizarre statement. There will always be a faster/different processor around. You pay what you are prepared to pay and if your happy who gives a toss. :)

Because fanboys are threatened by the 8700k.

Lol really? im swapping my 4770k for the 8700k, but i dont feel *threatened* by a bit of hardware, what an absolutely moronic statement to make...

Fact remains though, AMD still offer the best *bang for buck* CPU's, Intel are offering top end performance at a premium, for the everyday gamer though, AMD still reign supreme, but for those of us in this extremely *niche* enthusiast market, the 8700K is the new king.

But dont for one minute think that the 8700K is suddenly king of the world and everyone is going to rush out to buy one, simply not the case.

Wasn't the same said about the 7700k? People lapped them up. This comes with the added cost of a motherboard but you get 6 cores.
I think these will have no problem selling.

Zen was not around back then, AMD are competitive in performance with better bang for buck, so yeah everyone wins.

so can we get away from the willy waving and purchaser's guilt tripping for a mo, does anyone know when the nda lifts or is it next thursday when they are supposed to go on sale ?

I think people do forget that not everyone has the same budget, not everyone is upgrading from the same system and not everyone has the same usage scenario. There's positives and negatives to both Intel and AMD.

Gigabyte confirmed boards are launching on the 5th, I'd expect CPU's to be on the same day.

my 2600k at 4.5 is still rocking fine with a 1080 at 3440x1440p but i will be defo getting a 8700k as sometimes my minimum FPS could do with being a bit higher!

what voltage you running your 2600k at to get 4.8ghz supernaut?
Lots.

1.475vcore , board has a little bit of vdroop so its sometimes 1.462-1.475. Been running for years no issues.

I'll wait for the benches but I'm not anticipating a reason to get excited over my 4790K. I've had it just over 3 years and I can feasibly see me having it for 3 more after given people are still rocking 2600K's now. Hopefully AMD's recent advancements will push Intel to make actual gains with their new chips and AMD can build on the back of Ryzen and be even more competitive at the top end next release (I'm talking purely for premium gaming here, I appreciate AMD gives great B4B and TR is no slouch in other areas too).
