Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

brand new build minus a gpu, so mobo, case, psu, memory, cpu and a nvme drive to boot from and a fresh copy of windows 10 because need that dx12 loving finally lol. so got £1k so have to see whats what when them reviews hit and start crunching numbers as i have a feeling ryzen may drop a tad again as you can find 1700's at £245 now, so who knows come next thursday.

What you will find, is if you dont mind going 2nd hand, quite a few 7700k's will get sold off, prob a good chance to get a delidded one as well. Ryzen is also very cost effective, the added bonus with going Ryzen now is if they drop the refresh early next year you can always drop that in to your motherboard as well.

I expect the 8700K to be £400+ at release, it will get gouged bigtime, motherboards i reckon will be more expensive than the Z270 as well, just because... Retailers know this stuff is going to sell, so they will bump the margins accordingly. I reckon though that you might be in with a shout of a 8700K build for around £1k if you shop around.

All this future proof speak, by the time the 7nm zen is released ddr5 will be right around the corner. There is no such thing, buy the best you can now.
Nobody knows what the future chips will bring, thats of course assuming no delays.

eh what? whose banging on about *Future proof*? nothing is future proof, even buying AM4 now will only give you comparability with the next few Ryzen chips, of course your not going to get DDR5 and other new features unless you buy motherboards etc that provide those.

It’s not going to be £400+

wouldn't be surprised if its £389+ as the prices floating around seem to be for a tray (a thousand for you kids) of cpu's so adding £20-£30 per cpu will be a minimum. and then depending on how many people have to sell and if its as beastly as people claim them prices will climb no doubt.

The 7700K is only marginally faster than your 4790k, the 8700K is basically the 7700K in single threaded stuff and faster in Multithreaded, its good that Intel has now moved its i7 to a 6/12 rather than the old 4/8. We can all agree we can thank AMD for that.

My biggest gripe with the 8700K is aimed at the Z370 motherboards, it seems that they will be short lived, unless manufacturers can get a work around to put previous gen chips into them.

Im upgrading over my 4770K as ive had it for ages now and i just fancy a change, i was going down the AMD route, but the 8700K seems like a happy medium, i gain the 7700K gaming perf and close to the 1700 multithreaded performance.

Interestingly, rumors are that AMD's Zen refresh is due in Feb 2018, 12nm LP i believe, all AMD need is a 10% performance increase and those chips will be awesome.

I'd be happy to go back to AMD, I've been Intel for a while but I was AMD for a while prior to that. My main focus is gaming so adding more and more cores/threads (over the 4/8 I already have) isn't a selling point. Realistically, because I game at 4K I can see the 4790k lasting a while. I'll admit though that I do have that itch when new parts are released but I can't justify the small gains for the money I'd have to spend. Here's hoping Zen 2nd gen gives some nice gains to push Intel further in 2018 and in 2019 I have a compelling choice to make!

If you read the new leaks for zen 2 they dropped 7nm and are going with 12nm 5-15% gain. Just like intel anyone expecting to get another 52% insane ;P. With a 15% boost it would bring them upto kaby perhaps.

I'll go dig them out in a bit and see what people are writing. Like I said, hopefully the two companies end up pushing each other to produce better chips and give us better gains than the ones we've been seeing for the last few years.

Where do you live that a 7700k is 350? :s its dropped to under 300 now

Here https://www.overclockers.co.uk/inte...ocket-lga1151-processor-retail-cp-62f-in.html £350 in this very forums shop....

What i was reading said that the refresh due early next year was going to be 12nm LP, which is basically 14LPP+ or something i believe? everything else still points to Zen2 being 7nm?

The same people that are banging on about an upgrade path, what's the point if by the time AMD will be able to match kabylake ddr5 will be out so it's on an obsolete platform anyway.
