Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

If you follow the link on Intel's front page it says:

"Start planning for what new 8th Gen Intel Core processor-based device to purchase in the holiday season and even before."

They also clearly call it an unveiling so if it is a hard launch it's almost as if they are trying to keep us off the scent.

I get the feeling that all of the wind is going to be taken out of Ryzen's sails in the coming months, which is probably no good for anyone except Intel.

It's a shame because they do look like they've tried so very hard. AMD must have spent more money on marketing and packaging than R&D by now. It all looks so shiny.

I'm starting to get a bit jittery overt the 8 Pack 1700 bundle I ordered on Friday, it should be delivered tomorrow but if the 8700K performs as well as the leaked figures say it will, and is being released in the next couple of weeks. Then sadly I think the 1700 will be being returned.

You should return it anyway. You paid £200 for a bios config.

Woah woah relax mate. You've still got 2 more cores and 4 more threads with Ryzen. Not to mention cheaper.

Actually, I got it for a lot less than the cost of buying the parts individually. The 3.9 OC is also guaranteed for whatever value that is.

£625 by reusing my existing cooler and with 8 pack RAM.

Yes but if the 8700k does offer much better performance in games then I would rather spend ~£150 more for that. Intel are claiming what, 11% better performance and from looking at the slide, this at potentially lower clocks speeds (it is a bit blurry). Given that a 7700k is already quicker when gaming than Ryzen the extra performance will just make that gap greater and with fewer gambles like developers optimising games to work well with Ryzen.

It's going to be no faster than a 6 core Skylake-X, clock for clock direct comparison. Also you'd be daft to spend £150 for 3-5% performance, when that extra put towards a graphics card would make a much bigger difference.

Maybe future gaming they will be the same, but current games I bet not.
Why? 8700K is using ring topology, 7800X is using mesh topology. For the latter to perform better it should have every single game and driver optimised for it, and is on the same boat with the required optimisations Zen is.
And this exactly lack of optimisation makes the 7800X performing exactly the same as the 1600X. When is far superior chip, and both lacking greatly against 7700K and 7740K, both using Ring topology.

Intel ain't stupid. If they had released 7800X using the ring topology CPUs, it would have made Coffee Lake and Ice Lake redundant and still-born. Hell if they had released the 7900X with ring topology, it could have killed all Intel products and AMD on gaming, even at it's current £860 price tag.

Ofc if the price posted by Guru3d is right, and the 8700K goes for £400+, is the dead in the water CPU and before his own birth.

2-3% difference? The real difference in only in the raw MHz speed, and the ability to clock higher. Anyway, you took something I was saying about paying £150 more for the 8700K + board, vs. the R7 1700 the poster had already ordered, and it still stands, unless you have to have every last frame, and don't mind wasting money on the CPU + board combo, then the £150 will be a crap ton better invested in the GPU/Graphics card every day of the week.

That chart is in CAD not USD so it works out at about £300 + VAT. Although i'm not sure if that CAD price has any form of sales tax already applied.

No tax applied, at current rate that will make it £360 in the UK, which seems about right for Intel's pricing, and it puts the 8600K at £250, which again seems about right for Intel.

8700K at 484.44 CAD = $389. With exchange rate + VAT we are looking £390-400 tops.
So I stand correct. 7800X goes for £344 atm.

Is bit more complicated, assuming at first you aren't GPU bound at 2560x1440+, which means you have overclocked 1080Ti or TXp. In addition all the MMORPGs I play (eg TESO, SWTOR) ain't going to have their engines re-written, nor the Total War games. Even TW Warhammer an AMD supported game, runs on a single thread all time (last one). You need a much power as possible on that single thread.

WOT which is the a game also I play a lot, is OK. The engine is capped at 120fps, which the GTX1080ti delivers even on the 6800K @ 4Ghz. But that's because the 6 cores don't have to compete with each other, when I am using TS and streaming radio. Something on a 4 core 6700K tanks the performance.
