I doubt haswell will be much to write home about anyway as it seems intel are moving more mainstream with a helping shove from apple for better igpu, unless amd pull something out the hat.

Well, I think it could be taken for granted that Haswell would come in a years time.
It hardly makes Ivy obsolete. Or even Sandy. Those processors will not be obsolete for years, even if something newer and shinier comes out.
I could be wrong in my thinking but, like some others, I don't see Haswell being a huge leap over current CPU's, with the exception of much improved GPU.
What I am not sure what to expect from at the moment is Ivy-E, including whether or not Intel will even release it!

Can't help but think the support for 3 displays will take up a lot of the "improvements" as such.

Haswell is probably where I'll upgrade my 920. I had hopes for IB, but for playing games I don't think it'll make much difference right now. When next gen consoles arrive from Sony and MS, sometime next year I think, and we start benefiting from it, that for me seems like a good time to invest in an upgrade.

To be honest Sandy Bridge > Ivy Bridge and anyways new stuff is always around the corner, can't wait forever, but yeah i'm upgrading to 3930K

Along with DDR4 in production for round the sometime.......I can see where this is going.....

I've don't think I need to upgrade every year as a something new comes out. There isn't the need for more and more power for games and applications as there was 10 years ago. games are console games adapted fro PC so don't even use the power of the present range of processors for example.
After 5 years of a Q6600, I have just upgraded to an Ivy and by comparison it is amazing, I doubt I shall need to upgrade again for some years so why should I be bothered that the socket 1155 board I just bought won't take Haswell? After Haswell and Broadwell, the motherboards will change again anyway as the processors, I read somewhere, will be taking over much of the motherboards chip-set so anyone buying a Haswell will be on a short life board again.
Better to enjoy today's hardware today that stay with older stuff and fret about what might change next year.

Indeed. If Micron are to be believed then HMC DDR4 will be in full production 2013, they have working modules right now.
