Intending to get powerful animation workstation

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone could help me, at the moment I am about to commence work on some animations shorts, I am needing to get a powerful workstation though and was wondering what to get. I currently looked at a imac with 8GB ram and good processor, really need something that has beasty processor and 8GB ram or higher. So need to get a powerful rig to do the work in that is less likely to slow down unless its ridiculous punishing animation.

Any help or tips would be much appreciated

Mac or PC? If it's Mac you'll need a Mac Pro, which don't come cheap!

You should really ask in one of the computery forums for the best audience

Personally, I would recommend a netbook.

EG are you going to be using something like blender plugged into a ray tracer on linux/unix

Or are are you a 3d studio Max person? Or a softimage person?
