Long story, Starlet's gone back ( :( )

Got about a grand. Want something semi interesting.

Note: Interesting is not the same as good

For example:

Saxo VTR
Cheap Golf slammed on wide wheels
VW Caddy
ANYTHING for £500 that I can make fun with rattlecans and dished wheels
205 GTi
106 GTi
Almost anything old and crap and viable (unlikely I know)

I know these criteria may be beyond ridiculous for a lot of you, that's fine. Let me explain my reasons further.

I just want something that's fun. Saxo VTR is fun because it's a nippy little hatch that will amuse me enough as is, as a new driver. I will be entirely convinced it's a racing car, and that will keep me happy for some time.

Stupid German hatchbacks on stupid wheels make me happy as well, plus knocking 90% off its value with paint from Halfords will amuse me for a time.

I'm ok with wrecking the resale value of a very cheap car for my own amusement.

VW Caddys are awesome but let's be honest I won't get one for this money. If I find one that actually goes for £1k I'll spaff my kecks, but... it's a dream. A weird dream.

So basically, it's two camps.

1) Something that fills the budget (I can go to £1200 if its worth it) and is quite good for what it is, like the Saxo, 106, 205, and will be pretty much left as is or be a rolling resto (205).

2) Something that's cheaper that I can **** about with and drive into the ground before taking my stupid wheels with me and moving on to the next one. Golf, Caddy, etc etc.

If it helps, the car I technically currently still own but is going back (reasons beyond my control - I desperately would love to keep this car but can't for family reasons), is a Toyota Starlet SR. Engine and performance wise it's a boggo EP91 Starlet, 75bhp. It's got speedline wheels, a TRD exhaust and spoiler, so it looks reasonable in a cute way, makes a good brrm brrm noise but is very insurable for a new driver. I can stretch on the insurance though. But you get my gist - I passed my test on the 9th of this month and I want something fun. Probably a lot of you guys know what I mean by fun, previous name was Mohinder if that helps! I have similar bizarre tastes to Penski :D

I commute about 20 miles, so economy and so on are not real concerns. I know this isn't necessarily the favourite subject of this forum, but I want... character.

Very rambling post I know, big family drama tonight so I proceeded to do the decent thing and get a bit drunk, but hopefully you get the gist.

Recommend! Be stupid, knowing me I'll be up for it.

A Ford Mondeo in Si trim level. It's interesting because it was the only Mk2 Mondeo with a close ratio gearbox and was sold only in limited numbers as production halted just 2 years 6 months after its introduction. HOW INTERESTING.

AX GT, fun, cheappppp, may attract death sooner than you expect. god made it on the 7th day, just for a 'laff'.

can do stuff like this to it too, just because you can.

saxo may be the better option though, seriously chuckable tins, although esentially the same platform...

yeah, deserves snapping off. bloody board messages!

Damn. I didn't realize the classifies weren't available to the public :(.

Basically it's a very tidy Phase 2 1.9 205 GTI, with 127K on the clock and full service history.

For a grand.

Or (Not sure if this is allowed) I've got a 205 XS for sale if you're interested?

That'd be right on the money although the insurance on a 1.9 may be out of reach. Seen a couple of 1.6s on PH though that look reasonable and definitely considering them.

MR2 I'm sure I'd stick in a hedge, although I have spent the last 3 years on high powered motorbikes so I'd like to think I wouldn't. Can't be sure though.

I actually like that AX... They're on the list!

Golf mk2. Biggest engine you can afford to insure.

This is my first one. Didn't go too far with mine but was cheap and fun never the less.

Seeing as how you quoted the unedited post I'd just like to draw your attention to my added plug

Same engine as the AX and it even looks like a GTi ;).
