There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies:

Your mobile phone can actually be a lifesaver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: -

1. The Emergency Number worldwide for **Mobile** is 112. If you find yourself out of coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to
establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked.

2. Subject: Have you locked your keys in the car? Does you car have remote keys? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a mobile phone:

If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your mobile phone.

Hold your mobile phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the boot). Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone!"

3. Subject: Hidden Battery power

Imagine your mobile phone battery is very low, you are expecting an important call and you don't have a charger. Nokia instrument comes with a reserve battery. To activate, press the keys *3370#. Your phone will restart
with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your phone next time.

4. How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone:

* # 0 6 #

A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone gets stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either.

3 doesn't make sense, why would it be a hidden feature if it could do that?

2 seems hard to believe

1. you can also dial 999 whilst the keypad is locked.
2. I find this HIGHLY unlikely.
3. just tried this, doesnt work.
4. I knew about that but it is handy for those who don't.

Enhance Full Rate
Activate EFR - *3370#
Deactivate EFR - #3370#

This code will improves sound quality, but it will decreases battery life.
*Note: Phone will restart after code is entered.

Half Full Rate
Activate HFR - *4720#
Deactivate HFR - #4270#

This code will degrades sound quality, but will increases battery life.
*Note: Phone will restart after code is entered.
Works on my 5140, but I already knew that - I just didn't recognise the code.

Unfortunatley criminals can easily change the imei number and get the phone working again.

having thought this through more I've concluded that there is NO WAY number 2 is true.

If the car remote was IR-system then you can't send IR signals down a phone.

If the car remote was radio-system again, you can't send signals like that down a phone!!

It's like saying, shine a torch down the phone and light will come out the phone you are calling - phones take sounds and transfer it into either an electronic or digital signal, which is then turned back into soudn - it's not possible to send any data other than sound.

Indeed, it's a load of tosh. In fact, tosh with a capital 'T'. :D

number 2 is correct that can be done.
Explain in as much detail as possible, please.

Several people, including myself, are dubious of it working.

Are you saying that shining lights down phones doesn't blind the person you're talking to, for a laugh?

On a more serious note interesting tings I can do with my phone:
1- Ring people, yo sort of type in the number and press the big green 'call' button, not really sure how it works...

2- Send text messsages, im sure this varies by phone, but its not too hard...

3- Watch clips from planet earth, which I downloaded for free ages ago, the penguin huddle one is fascinating...

i'm not just dubious, I will say right now that in no way, shape or form is it possible!!

The only way a mobile not get the keys out of your car is to phone home and get the spare, or throw it through the window....

However, sort of on topic, if your battery is going and from a distance the car doesn't unlock by pushing the button, hold it to your head and try it. That one works :)

As for number 1 - there is an agreement in place between all UK networks that any phone can use any network in case of emergencies and the need to dial 999.
That is why you will see on your phone "Emergency Calls Only".
You're out of range for your network, however you are locked onto another one so can dial the emergency services if you have the need.
