Earlier this evening was out getting some wood for the fire from the garage and a light in the sky caught my attention. Moving slowly at a steady speed glowing an orange colour, it was because it wasn't flashing that it made me look twice.

Watched it for a bit then called my wife and got kid to tell him it was Rudolf. :p Went to get my camera then when I went back out I was amazed to see it at the other side of the sky on the same course as previously. Later realised that it wasn't likely same one as 2 of them appeared at once travelling across sky.

Live nearish to airport and see aircraft regularly coming and going and so I'm confident it wasn't aeroplane or helicopter. Also had time to get my binoculars and could see a larger darker shape behind the glow although was difficult to make out shape.

So there you go, maybe it was Santa and his mates but I'm genuinely stumped to what these lights would have been.

This was in Newtownabbey, partly cloudy, 3 lights moving S, maybe SW. So when in doubt post in GD cus Christymas eve is as good as time as any to see weird lights in the sky.

Chinese lanterns. Google them.

Could well have been, have never seen them before and wind direction on Met office website would be pretty close to the direction of travel.

Wasn't really wanting my joys of seeing santa spoiled that quick though. :D

Another lantern thread! So soon!

Don't try and light these when very drunk, it's just common sense that I ignored.

Bah, when was this, i could go and look outside but as im sure you are aware we appear to be iced up again round here, its lethal out there!!

Was probably aroud 8ish or so. It is pretty icey out there, we're in a cul de sac and it is just like a skating rink. Not as cold as last night though, I've a thermometer that hangs outside which got down to -9 last night, currently a balmy -3 reading on it now.

Likewise, our close/cul de sac is a skating rink too, been several bumps by muppets not driving slow enough and the council was kind enough to leave us a bag of grit which some idiot dumped in one tiny spot....never mind the rest of us!!!!
