Hey guys,
Thought I'd share my experience/give warning on a certain Technician based in Swindon.
Here it goes...After about 6months of stepping on my iPhone 2G the LCD bleed had started to get on my nerves. It had been slowly spreading from one spot in the middle to several all over the screen.
Decided couple of weeks ago I'd get it fixed, looking at tutorials etc online I decided to just pay the extra labour charges and get it fixed 'professionally'. (Wasn't that confident to do it myself)
Looked all over the net, was a few places that did the whole 'Send away, get back' service. Being not too keen on this I found a local IT support/Repair person, advertising on his site that he was able to fix iPhones.
Great I thought, he even advertised doing it on-site so I could watch/have peace of mind. Phoned the guy up got a price (£69inc labour) and got him to order a complete LCD/Touchscreen/Front glass combo. Few days later the part had turned up and he came over to get cracking.
He sat for half an hour trying to get the rear black antenna cover off. Eventually he concluded he would need a heat gun to heat up the glue holding the back cover in place and it would have to be taken back for repair.
Fair enough I thought, he said he'd have it back by the next morning.
Next morning comes and nothing heard, so I phoned him up to ask the situation and he told me the iPhone had been opened up before confused Sure I got it originally from the bay but it was sold as new and sealed. The warranty on the apple site seemed to be in order too.
He then continued to tell me it had been glued back into place excessively...At the time I was debating whether this was true or not. I had heard about small amounts of glue used but nothing drastic.
Giving him the benefit of the doubt, I asked what he would do. He went on to tell me he had FORCED the black case part off and had bent the rear metal casing as well. But he said he would order me a new casing and that I wouldn't be charged any extra.
The parts were due to turn up on the Friday (19th Feb) and was told it would be ready by Saturday, if not the Monday. Constantly emailing/phoning got me no where up until yesterday. Which the parts had apparently arrived and were ready to be fitted. I was promised to have it back in my hands before the end of last night.
This didn't happen, I had 2 emails saying that its being tested. (Cant see that taking very long) and no replies after and you guessed it...No iPhone.
Again today he's apparently 'testing' still, I've tried to contact him again this evening and nothing.
Pretty damn crappy service in my opinion. Something which was supposed to be done and dusted almost a week ago.
Don't know where I stand at present, I have his address and telephone number. Been without a phone all this time.
Any suggestions? What can I do? Feel like I'm being screwed over.
