*** iPhone 5 - Revealed! ***

Nice to see the 12th has been confirmed, as suspected.

So far the leaks haven't wowed me but I think the official stuff will. It's got to be good.

Sure, micro USB is useful. But Apple have decided to have a proprietary connector and so what? I also think it looks nicer than micro USB but of course this is subjective. If HTC or Samsung decided to create their own connectors, again, so what?

I think it's more to do with the fact he called a connector 'beautiful'. :o :p

I couldn't say, maybe they'll introduce a 128GB model but I doubt it.

I'm wondering whether they'll drop the 16GB model and bump the base model up to 32GB, but again, I doubt it.

Apple's iPhone launches no longer excite

Some valid observations made here I think. I'm excited about iPhone 5, but in all honesty, progress has been pretty slow, especially given they have only one product in this market.

I think the jump from the 3GS to the iPhone 4 was a very notable one. They completely changed the design (for the better, in my opinion) and pretty much improved on every aspect of the phone.

  • The screen, while the same size, was excellent and sharp.
  • The design was all new, looked excellent and felt very premium.
  • The camera was one of the best around, and a huge step up from the 3GS, as was the video recording.
  • It had a front facing camera - and a fairly decent built in service to use it (FaceTime).
  • The battery life was a big step up.
  • It was quite a lot faster, and just generally better to use.

The iPhone 4S really just brought the better camera/video and Siri, as well as being faster and improving the signal. It worsened the battery life however, which wasn't good. There was nothing there to get excited about, really.

I fear that the above will be the case today. A 4"~ screen is going to improve things and be a very welcome addition - and one of the biggest things they can add - but is that all we're going to see?

If all of the leaks are accurate, there really isn't that much to look forward to.

I'd be in a genuine state of astonishment if Apple go ahead and announce something entirely different to what we've seen leaked/are expecting.

Isn't that pointless on a phone though? Surely higher clocked dual core would be much better?

Not really, quad-core is a logical step forward in so much that it isn't about the power, it's more about the architecture using less power - making the battery life better.

The cores aren't all that important though, as evidenced by the S4 Snapdragon (dual-core 1.5Ghz) in Android phones more or less outperforming everything else. A quad-core one would just be even better.

My point is that would the dual core version not be better at efficiency without being overpowered?

I'm not sure, it might not affect the efficiency much... in which case it makes sense to have the quad-core.

It may even be more efficient (due to how it spreads the load)...!

I'd consider it to be on par with the S3, with the preference being software and design.

Overall though, I like it, but innovative it is not.
