*** iPhone 5 - Revealed! ***

I've never had an iPhone, and I probably won't get one of these (I'm a student, and dropping £500 on a phone just seems insane on my budget!)... but I think they're good. What do people expect, when they're asking for something revolutionary? What would make you think, "WOW!!"?!

This is what I've just asked in the thread about it in the mobile section, where it will no doubt be slated plenty.

It's not my job to innovate, that's down to Apple, but considering the current technology available they couldn't have done much more as far as I'm aware.

They left out NFC, but that is seldom used at the moment... by anyone.

Samsung changed the design of the Galaxy S 3 for the sake of it, pretty much, and most people say they prefer the S2 design and moaned about it no end.

The iPhone 4 design is the best design (in my opinion), I didn't want them to change it too much. I'm not totally sold on the 2 colour thing but I do like it.

I'm tempted, and from a Blackberry user who's never really given much thought to Apple stuff that's saying something!

Will these just work with EE 4G out of the box then (when the network is available) or will you need a special version?

They all have LTE support, but you may have to have a special data plan with EE or something. Who knows!

My HTC Sensation XE, feels superb, it's got all the rigidity of the Apple equivalent, and I can change the battery if needed. Also how are you defining good build quality 'cause the last one broke if you dropped it on to anything harder than a doormat, unless it was cased?

The Sensation is not a good example of great quality. Sure, it seems good at first but it's not well made. It's a bit of a creaky mess due to the phone-in-shell design.

I love the EE website.

'Dont wait until you are home to download films'

Yea, right - because you'll be able to download films using the ridiculous bandwidth limits they are almost certain to impose.

If they do impose such limits, it makes 4G entirely pointless. It really has to be a massive allowance, likely unlimited; but I bet it won't be.

Especially as you'll have to pay extra for it to begin with (most likely).

Hmmm dont know if Im gonna get it now looking at the side by side comparison, dont think the screen being made longer but not wider makes it a great screen ratio - just seems to be a funny one...

Anyone got actual dimensions of the screen - I know its 1136x640 pixels?

ps3ud0

  • Retina display
  • 4-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display
  • 1136-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi
  • 800:1 contrast ratio (typical)
  • 500 cd/m2 max brightness (typical)
  • Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating on front
  • Support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously

Anyone reporting what the A6 chip actually is? Seem to be conflicting reports between it being Dual and Quad.

It'll be the dual-core A15, I'm fairly certain.

It's the best chip on the market.

Has to be quad surely? otherwise they would have just used the A5x

The new dual-core they've likely used is all new architecture. It's actually something that is class-leading at the moment. Faster, and more power efficient than anything else.

Totally agree - Wish more people saw it this way, rather than taking swipes at Apple at any chance possible :p

They couldn't have done more with the latest iPhone really...

Don't read the iPhone 5 thread in the mobiles section, the doom merchants are out in force. :p

It may be better in your opinion, that much is clear but it's just your opinion.

In the real world Exynos 4412 wins most benchmarks, so why not try being impartial with your comments instead of trying to pass of your opinion as fact? :)

Both have advantages, neither is outright better, that said the Quad Core S4 with Adreno 320 will be better. ;)

It isn't my opinion, it's just my understanding that the S4 Snapdragon is better. I have an Exynos S3 so have no interest in falsely saying the S4 is better for my own benefit, I'd rather it wasn't.

What are these benchmarks that you speak of, I'd love to see them.

Sarge on here is the chap to ask about this, I'm sure he'll clear it up for you.

Have had a 3GS for 3 years now, will wait until iPhone 6 comes out before thinking about an upgrade.

Disappointed with Apple today.

What on earth would have made you upgrade then? The iPhone 4 was reason enough to ditch the 3GS, nevermind the 4S and 5!

Ok I can now say that if you have a 4S, THERES NO POINT Upgrading. You just wont notice the difference at all...

I phone 3Gs, 4 Users can do, but if your upgrading from the 4S, go do one

There he is, Jimzy boy. Just comedy now. :p

They could be giving away a free Veyron with each iPhone purchase and he'd start banging on about speed limits.

It's why we have these Apple forums, as you can't go into the mobiles forum and talk about iPhones without being crushed under a wave of silly talk. Whenever a new product comes out there's always an influx of posters from 'down there' ready to put their derping caps on and lay some tasty bait down. They'll all scurry back once the thing's out and the owners thread starts filling up.

You're not wrong, it's a shame really. Most people in the mobiles forum are intelligent individuals yet some of them have seemingly sworn an allegiance to Google and have to go out of their way to slate the iPhone, and they don't realise how silly it makes them look.

It's easy to identify this sort of poster within this thread for example, their posts usually go as follows:

- Something relatively generic about how bad the iPhone is, perhaps a brisk comment about how awful it is due to one small feature they want that it doesn't have

- Something about how Apple are now going to 'die' and lose all their market share and how disappointed everyone is - when in reality they may be slightly underwhelmed, but will still probably get one anyway

- Something about how it will only be purchased by die hard fanboys who are too blind to realise Android is better - this comment alone is a insanely ironic - nobody can claim something is inferior as a 'fact' when they are so different

- A focus on mentioning the crazy Apple fanboys who 'live' in this section of the forum, when actually - thus far - I haven't really seen any people of this description

It genuinely astounds me that people are too stupid to realise that it comes down to personal preference, at the end of the day. iOS does not work in the same way as Android, anyone who thinks that just because you can customise Android, it can be the same, is wrong to say the least.

On a forum such as this, populated mostly by stereotypical 'nerdy' types, Android is inevitably going to be more popular, however it actually isn't, I'd wager more people probably have an iPhone than an Android phone, if you polled the entire forum (on high end devices only, at least).

Unfortunately, some of the Android groups have become extremely vocal in their almost fanatic defence of their OS of choice; like a bleeding insecurity. If it's so good, why don't you just ignore Apple? I honestly don't get it. There are Apple users who do this as well, or at least their were, perhaps they've all jumped ship to Android... perhaps it's the people and not the products/companies after all. You don't buy a Mercedes Benz S Class and spend all of your time on a Vauxhall forum telling everyone their Corsa is worse, why would you.

There was even one utter fool in the mobile section iPhone 5 thread calling me a fanboy, when I was just discussing the phone (amongst a sea of people saying how awful it is), then he continued his near fanatical plugging of Android, and the usual nonsense that accompanies it.

I'm sure I can't be the only person who is a bit tired of it? It's all very bizarre, to say the least.
