Hello - I’m thinking of the best way to get my “hi-def” lossless Apple Music tracks from my phone.

I have an amplifier (Marantz 6005) and some basic wharfdale 220 speakers.

The Marantz has an optical input and a build in DAC.

I think the least amount of components needed would be:

- iPhone camera adaptor (USB female end)
- USB male to male cable
- USB female to optical adaptor

This all seems a bit fiddly! Is there a neater solution that doesn’t involve buying a new amp…?

Thanks!

Would bluetooth ruin the sound?

I bought a little bluetooth receiver, USB powered and RCA out to my stereo amp.
Good idea, but you can’t stream lossless via Bluetooth (not compatible - so the quality gets downgraded).

However, I’m aware that network streaming doesn’t have the same limitations…. But that itself can have separate limitations.

Get a audio streamer that plays lossless digital out to your dac
From what I understand, apples ‘AirPlay’ supports streaming in lossless, but the Apple Music app does not.

So not possible to stream to a DAC from the Apple Music app in lossless. Willing to be shown otherwise!

Right, this is what I went with:

Lightening Cable to USB 3 Camera Adaptor:

USB (3) A to C cable:

USB to Coaxial Adaptor:

Coaxial Cable:

This will then run into the Marantz 6005 (which has a DAC) and out through the speakers. Here hoping it sounds good!

lol could have just bought a streamer.

£60 for coaxial cable????
As mentioned, Apple Music / airplay via a streamer wouldn’t be hi-def lossless, so there are some limitations based on what I have.

Yes - it was £60.
Your comment made me reflect on this further - if it’s a digital cable, probably extremely limited returns even if the reviews for it were positive.

Swapped it for £10 alternative :)
