iPhone - cant cope with O2 500mb per month

I'd consider myself as a user with more than average requirements, and have never gone over my 250MB limit.

What are you doing? Watching iPlayer or streaming loads of videos?

neither

just downloading apps mainly.

My data usage reset on the 4th, and i've used 300mb already.

I do have push notifications for some of my on-line games and facebook however, that will be chewing small bits of bandwidth.

I email pictures all the time, that slowly eats into my allowance.
However im not sure how much T-mobile are actually monitoring how much i use anymore.
It was free internet when i signed up (went from android to 3g) then it went to 3GB and now i've heard they're chopping it down more.
I hate how they all worked on raking in the customers by offering more allowance then reversing it once we are all in contracts.

Yes but that's not the point. It's too low for a smart phone like the iPhone. It's just too easy to go over that limit doing a number of different things. 1TB I could cope with, but 500MB is measly. I pay contract so that I'm supposed to be able to just use the iPhone as it was designed and intended to be used. I don't want to be having to top my phone up every now and then. If I wanted that I would have gone pay as you go.
Plus there is no incentive to add the extra 500mb/1TB Bolt on permanently as it costs the same as to have it on when u need it. Why doesn't O2 do a permanent cheaper bolt on? Plus I don't believe O2 saying that most users never hit 500mb. I think they have set it at 500mb knowing that a large % of it's customers could easily hit that. Making it a nice little earner for O2. This would not be the case for 1TB per month.

I think you'd struggle to hit 1TB/month tbh... :p

Back to your original question, I doubt you will be able to port your wife's no and keep yours. The best way to find out is to ring up o2 though.

As for the data you seem to want everything for nothing. If you want more data from o2 you are going to have to get a more expensive contract.

Your best option might be with 3's iphone 4 sim only deal. £25 for

2000 any network minutes
5000 texts
5000 Three-to-Three minutes
All-you-can-eat Data
12 month contract

You should probably consider investing in that new fangled technology called WiFi, I hear you can even get it at home now! :)

this

i was strugling with 500gb, then bought a new wireless router and all my problems with data on IP4 have gone
get wifi brother its all the craze, all the cool dudes are on it lolz :D

Must say i'm having same problems with there limits, I'm using it a lot for streaming spotify on my phone, while in the car or running ect.

And i'm hittting it every month, really annoys me they changed this, as i've had unlimited for 4 years.

Or if that didn't work I guess she could just cancel her contract, take my sim and number. I just get a new sim and number for Giffgaff or 3 mobile. Only problem being hers is a iPhone 3Gs and wont take a micro sim! Arggghh...!

You can just get a micro SIM to normal SIM adapter. The micro SIM just clips into a plastic plate that makes it the same size as a normal SIM card. I got one from o2 when I got my iPhone 4 (not entirely why, it was just bunged in the bag).

Is anyone on the simplicity plan from before the 500mb cap was put into place? I got a text ages ago saying I will be moved to a 500mb cap but iv gone over that a fair few times now and never had a text or email.

Yep I'm on the older tarrif still, in December I was using my phone tethered to my pc for online gaming :D (only averaged 150~ms pings) and went up to 1.2GB with no extra charge.

But thats what Im saying. Thats what O2 should have set it to, like Tesco did. Is Tesco still 1TB?

'Dude' I do have WiFi at home, and do use it automatically. It works very well and I get 20Mbps down and 8Mbps up (and that on my iPhone - actual speed test). Last night I downloaded about +700mb (apps) direct to the iPhone via Wifi. So yes without Wifi I would never survive. Hopefully my office will eventually sort out free WiFi for us.

Excellent, knew you could go micro, but was not sure about vice versa. Thanks. Now I just need to way up whether its worth staying with O2 to upgrade the oldest iPhone (Wife's 3Gs) to iPhone 5 next summer.

I thought O2 were eventually phasing out all unlimited old contracts/tarrifs to the new 500mb cap??

Yeah that's what I thought, I was surprised not to get charged for it but then normally I'm down at 150mb/month. Maybe they just decided it was fair usage for one month.

You should download your playlists rather than streaming them, you'll burn through your data allowance in no time other wise.

I think you mean 1gb.

Actually I would imagine people actually spending over 500mb a month on their data allowance is very much in the minority. I think o2 said something like 97% of people don't go anywhere near 500mb a month, which is line with figures I have seen.
