They are just saying iPhone instead of iOS (as it's the only phone that runs iOS)

They are hardly going to list all the Android phones :p So just say Android
 
Interesting to see the UK figures as, at a guess, Android will have overtaken iOS in the tables.:p

I still want to know the sales figures of the Desire Vs iPhone 4. You never get any individual sales figures from HTC unfortunately.
 
The HTC Desire was so out of stock at Orange it possibly represented a big lost opportunity. At one point we had so many reserved through the website that an entire shipment (for the online shop) went out without any being made available to new visitors to orange.co.uk. Shops frequently sold out within a day or two etc... Here's hoping they flood the channel with more stock for the new two.
 
This is why I wonder what the sales numbers are. Were they out of stock because they were so popular or because they just didn't make that many?

Was your desire a branded one?

I noticed when looking at a friends his was a lot slower then my unbranded one which has never slowed down once!!

His was an orange one.

no this is incorrect to compare this way as you're comparing ios with android but ignoring all but one phone it's on.

ip4 will have more single sales as android can be bought on a load of devices, so if you want android you have a choice, if you want ios you have no choice but one phone. the comparison of android os compared to ios is a fair comparison. you can't say ios is doing as good as android if you ignore all but one phone that android is on

This. I put up with the bugs on the Galaxy and the lack of software support from Samsung. The other day I needed my phone for driving along and the GPS was awful and jumped all over the place going down a straight road. My old iPhone 3G never had that problem.

I also wanted to install Skype on the phone but it seems on the Android platform they have an exclusive contract with one provider so I have to use a laptop.

I now have some spare cash and have sold it to upgrade to an iPhone 4. Yes the Galaxy is faster (but what for? nothing needs the CPU speed!), yes the screen is bright (but if you leave it on bright it runs out quickly!) and yes it has a front facing camera (but there's nothing you can use it with!). Feel like ive whored myself out to Apple again, but I've used the phone now for a couple of months and just prefer the iphone as an overall device. The app store for iPhone is vastly better too.
 
Tbh it's not surprising. If you only sell one device it's always a compromise. If android is on two-hundred devices then there's going to be something for everyone.

That and tha fact the iphone is horribly over priced, how many hundred did mr jobs say apple made on each handset? My samsung wave has the same cpu & ram as an iphone, better gpu, larger battery, more power efficient - higher contrast - screen (capable of registering eight simultaneous touches), bluetooth 3.0 etc and only costs half what an iphone does.

Considering the same technology is making it's way into android devices (galaxy s) at similar pricing, it's understandable that they will inevitable sell more. At some point when people are in a shop looking at two side by side, they're going to ask why one is double the price of the other for the same hardware. I doubt apple pocketing the difference will motivate consumers :)
 
Those figures are good for apple tbh as has been said they only release that OP system on there phone where as Android is on practically all the manufacturers out there, really shows how strong there are.

I no apple fan boy but after owing the Desire Galaxy S and Iphone 4(all of which i have sold as i get bored of phones) i would take the I4 over any of the Android phones much better phone in every way for me.

meh i disagree. you're looking at it as those apples got the best phone because it has the most sales in one phone, but then that's simple because customers are forced to buy one phone if they want ios4. if ios4 was on say 6 phones based on the figures in this thread i'd say they wouldn't have the highest selling phone.

But equally, if people want a phone with iOS 4, they want an iPhone since it is the only phone that runs that OS. It's disingenuous to say that people only get the iPhone because they want iOS 4, because the whole thing is a package; the physical phone itself, and the OS.

Android will continue to grow and become number one some time in the future, simply because it's a joint venture (Open Handset Alliance) with some major players of the phone industry.

On top of that, not everyone is willing to fork out for overpriced iPhone contracts, so Android really is the only alternative if you want a decent, touch screen smartphone.

Also Android is being used on a lot of mid ranged phones too, sold to J. Bloggs who doesn't know what Android is.

but what i'm saying is you can't say ios4 is better then android because it has the number one phone as the results aren't accurate. in my family alone there is 2 iphones, 4 androids, however as each android phone is different this means android results will show the phones as "not as good" but in fact more people are choosing android because they think it's better.

if apple had a variety of phones with io4 on it then you could compare the best selling apple phone and best selling android phone and this would give the best comparison but you can't, so you have to base it on how many phones have which os on them and how many are being sold.

i can understand your thinking but in this case it doesn't work.
