iPhone drops to 24% smartphone share, Android jumps to 17%

just imagine when nokia finally give up their **** poor os and go android (which will happen eventually else they will lose more marketshare) that will be an amazing day for android..

Don't forget in the US the iphone isn't available on 2 of the major networks, Sprint and Verizon because it is a GSM only phone, and Verizon have the best countrywide coverage so if you want a smartphone on Verizon then Android or WebOS are your only choices.

Arguably a mistake by Apple not to release a CDMA device, not because it necessarily lost sales but because it gave Android a captive market to become established, guaranteed Market customers for developers to sell to etc.

Well you seem to be forgetting the other big smartphone player in the American market...blackberries which seem to sell by the bucketload over in N America...they both come in GSM and CDMA flavours.

As far as the iphone is concerned, there are rumours that Verizon will be selling the CDMA version of the iphone...when is anyones guess but there are rumours that the next iphone will be built for both GSM and CDMA networks.

Your right though in that Apple not making a CDMA version of the iphone is a big mistake, they would do well to sell a CDMA iphone until then Android will become much bigger than the iphone over in N America.
