hey guys

Wife's Iphone 6s is nearing the end of its useful life and she really wants another Iphone for some reason.

I have been looking for the best/cheapest way to buy an XR or XS and I came across what looks like some decent deals on Three and O2 through Mobilephonesdirect and thesmartphonecompany.

Basically, 0 upfront + 47 per month for 24 months with 120GB data. Works out to about 115 for the XR or 349 for the XS (assuming you were to take the same phone line package). You get about 350-390 back from their cashback offer.

Does this sound like a good deal or can they be had better somewhere else?

Thanks in advance

Without any information like how much data is needed or what size iPhone youre looking at its hard to tell.

this deal for £36 per month with 45gb data and nothing upfront is a good deal for the Xs 64gb

The xr is the same price

For £41 you can get the 11

Oh sorry this was for the 128Gb XR or 256gb XS. I think those are the minimum storage options she wants as she takes an unreal amount of photos and has a phobia of using cloud. In terms of data, she uses about 30GB a month atm (youtube and netflix stuff mainly)

I just want to get either of those at the cheapest possible price as the value I place on either is close to zero. So if I buy them outright im looking at 730 for the XR or 800 for the XS. That doesnt make much sense when I can pickup a contract one with MPD or SPC for the equivalent of 115 - 349.

Get the XS not the XR if you love your wife :)

The XS 64GB can be had new for 650 ish plus a 10 quid per month contract gets you 10-30gb per month if that's enough. 429 quid via music magpie for a good condition second hander.

The reason I say 64 GB (it's pap levels of storage) is that google photos is really good for backups. Compression you don't notice and it's seamless, unnoticeable cloud saving with no charge.

I know I recommend compromising on the storage but it'll save you a fortune.

Edit - sorry just noticed your wife uses 30gb per month, which put her at the outer end of cheap sims. That'll teach me to read closer.

You can get unlimited for £20 per month. 1 month contract.

Or 50gb for £15 through smarty

Trust me when I say we have had fights about this - she has a bizarre phobia of using any sort of cloud backup (icloud, google drive, google photos) for storing photos. It's a non-starter and is frustrating af for me but I've given up trying to convince her that if anyone can be arsed to hack your photos of trees and doves then we have bigger issues to worry about.

Correct. So if you assume you will be paying 15 a month for 50GB (currently what we pay with EE for the same amount of data) then that works out to 360 for 24 months. Add the cost of the phone at say 800 for the XS 256GB and that is 1160 over 24 months.

The same thing can be had on mobilephonesdirect with O2 or Three for example, for 740 for 24 months (after cashback). So effectively paying close to nothing for the contract over that period of time. I was just wondering if there were better deals out there

How soon does she need it?

I believe Apple are planning an announcement for the SE2 / iphone 9 / 12 at the end of March, tonnes of rumours surrounding it.
