iPhone insurance cold calls

Well it didnt take long for a 3rd party company to call me offering a "cheaper" version of the insurance I took out with my iphone.

Took me a good few minutes to get out of them that they were not calling from the company I took out my insurance with in the first place even though they claimed their insurance policy price had been reduced since I got my insurance.

"Could you just tell me your details so I can confirm them with the ones I have on screen."

Yeah, nice try at some data capture love, nice try.

Be warned, they are calling all iPhone customers and its not the same company so the cover may not be the same.

Yeah they called me, less than 24 hours after getting my iPhone and wanted my bank details which I though was strange, they didn't even tell me what they were doing and I managed to get them to go away.

I got a call about 24 hours after activating my iPhone (claiming to be from CPW) and wondered why I hadn't taken insurance out with them. Told them it's too expensive and it's covered on house insurance and that was it.

He also wanted to check everything was ok with the phone, so don't think it was anyone dodgy.

I just called O2 to get my number ported (now their systems are finally working) and asked about this call. They said it was more than likely one of CPW's partners calling all iPhone customers. I'm pretty sure it was all legitimate it is just the way they go about selling it, the guy was like "I'm just calling to setup your insurance on your phone, can I confirm you details?". I wasn't asked ahead of that if I wanted insurance.

Yeah, CPW seem to be trying to force people to buy their over priced insurance.

When I rang up before the 11th July to check my order had gone through, the bloke on the phone kept going totally off topic saying "I can't believe you didn't buy insurance for your iPhone mate, what if someone steals it, innit? You'd have to buy a new iPhone and a SIM for like £10".

It's covered under house insurance so I don't need it.

I've had 3 calls since Friday trying to flog me insurance, 2 of which used the

"We notice you have taken out insurance...blah blah". Errrm, no you havent, because I didnt take any out.

3rd was from o2 and was a nicer caller, much more polite and actually honest!

I got mine about an hour after activation. The guy was mexican/spanish and I couldn't understand him at all. All I know is that the product was £70 per year as a special offer. Great!

Had a missed call from a blocked number, then a text from CPW. Along with the added on text package (which O2 informed me CPW added), I think CPW are awesome*.

*never again.

I've had nothing but this sort of behaviour from CPW in the past, doesn't surprise me at all. One of them was bordering on taking the mickey out of me for the tariff I was on, one which they had sold me a year before.

How can you tell if they add any extras? Will it show up on my online bill at O2?

I'm glad I managed to get my iPhone on release day thanks to CPW but apart from that they have been useless. First off they blocked mine and my girlfriends orders because they had matching landline numbers (I was staying at hers) yet everything else was all fine. They didn't do anything to resolve the issue, we had to call them up and spend 20 minutes on the phone after a 20 minute wait in a queue. I wasn't stupid enough to call their 0870 number and give them a licence to print money so I looked up the 0800 number using 'say no to 0870' and called via Skype. After getting the orders sorted, it took use ages to convice the guy in the CPW store that we were not trying to scam them (due to that security issue of the matching phone numbers). They wanted to return the phones but we managed to get them after showing ID and explaining the situation. Later that evening my girlfriend has trouble getting cash from a cashpoint, turns out CPW charged her twice for the phone and the refund has yet still to go in to her account. Saturday comes around and I get that dodgy call for insurance and neraly gave over my bank details. Hopefully this is the end of the chaos they have caused us both.

Does anyone know what the FUP for the data is?

When we announced our new iPhone tariffs back in September we broke new ground for O2, introducing unlimited use of mobile data services and The Cloud's public Wi-Fi network. The iPhone offers the best internet on mobile experience in the market and we want customers to enjoy this without limit or worries about being charged a penny more.

To avoid abuse of this offering, a fair use policy was set in place at an amount that's miles beyond expected average use [ED- 200MB]. This policy was intended to prevent commercial exploitation or using the iPhone as a modem, both of which would put everyone else's experience at risk. We now appreciate that having set limits as part of the fair use policy conflicted with our objective of encouraging internet usage on the iPhone. People don't speak in megabytes and customer feedback has been that if we say unlimited, it should be unlimited.

We have listened to our customers and will be lifting these limits so that our original intention - for you to use your iPhone to your heart's content - is what it's all about with no confusion or distraction. We look forward to our customers enjoying the fantastic internet experience on their iPhone when it goes on sale next Friday."

While there will be no set limit, a fair use policy remains in force to prevent abuse of the service. The tariffs are designed for personal internet use, email and Visual Voicemail for the iPhone only. Customers may not put their SIM card in any other device, or use the SIM card or iPhone for continuous streaming of any audio/video content, enable P2P or file sharing or use them in such a way that adversely impacts the service to other O2 customers.

Contradicting information, I would say there is no limit if your only using features of the iPhone, jailbreaking it and using SSH to tunnel a connection to your laptop would probably violate that FUP. That said, if you happen to be using Youtube all the time doesn't that count as continious streaming?

Cool thanks for that.

I remember them lifting the FUP for the original iPhone, but wasn't sure if they had added another because of the 3G data.

ok, the next person to get a call off these guys needs to get some more information out of them. I want to report these guys to trading standards for the conversation that just had with my bro:

Bro: "I appreciate that you're a legitimate company, but could you remove me from your database and never call me again"

Bint: "As you've been rude to me (wtf?) I'm going to call this number all the time" <click>

She gave me this website yesterday; http://www.time-2-cover.co.uk/ when I started to dig, we need a phone number to call them back if possible.

God I hate CPW, just got ANOTHER call from a blocked number saying that I had insured my phone for £12 a month when I bough my phone. I told them that I never insured it and asked them to cancel it, they said ok and hung up. They knew my phone was not insured, the insurance they said I had bought never exisited (they know that) and I'm fairly sure that if I had continued the call they would have asked me to confirm details and then activated it. I hate the way they are trying to pull a fast one on me to get my phone insured.
