I'm not too fussed about 3G as I know 02 coverage (for 3G) in my area is little to none.

I'm just a bit gutted they're not launching for ANOTHER 2 months yet they seem to want to charge just as much as the handset the US has had for 2 months already, what a joke.

Not available until November, no 3G and o2.. not sure it could be any worse :(

Lolz, people are impossible! Cos without 3G the iPhone is just useless isn't it? Why companies bother trying to revolutionise I don't know, when all they get is this kind of feedback. The iPhone has done more for mobiles than any device in the last 10 years, I will be getting one (limitations aside).

Steve: "The 3G chipsets are real power hogs. Handset battery life cuts power to 2-3 hours. Our phone has a talk time of 8 hours and that's really important when you want to use your phone for internet and music. 3G needs to get back up to 5+ hours, something we think well see later next year. ... WiFi is way faster than any 3G network. Energy efficient EDGE with better, faster WiFi. That's why we chose it."

[Nod to Rossmac] ;)

I'd rather have more battery life than stupid slow 3G anyway.

It still boggles me how they are allowed to say its unlimited but then "oh you cant look at more than 1400 pages a day" even if that is quite a lot.

I challenge anyone to physically look at 1400 pages on their phone; moreso in a SINGLE day.

If that's the case you'll easily be able to get on to some kind of wi fi network if you're at home or in work.

10:37 - Q: £900 for 18 months on up to £1260. Any assurance you won't slash the price by 1/3rd? (Laughter.)

Steve: "I don't think that's going to happen. But this is technology so you never know. We have no plans to change the pricing, but we guarantee it will change in the future just like all technology products. We're working on the next iPhone and the next one after that. That's what our customers expect."
That's going to restore confidence to the early adopters :o

02 site is back up.

Nice ignorant attitude there.

Can you explain what - besides the UI - the iPhone has "done more for mobiles in the last 10 years"? There's no 3G, it doesn't even do MMS, 3rd party apps are locked out, SMS messaging has some serious usability flaws (though I guess you'll say Apples way - which is the antithesis of how everyone else does it - is "right")... and to cap it all off - it's more expensive than it was in the States when it was launched.

I guess none of those "minor" points will matter though eh, keep praying at the altar of Steve Jobs.

Massively disappointed in the phone - would've been interested (as a folly) if it was coming with 3G, but as it stands we'd have to pay over the odds with a sub-standard data service. As much as I like Apples design ethos, I'm not paying them over the odds for a phone that does less than comparable Nokias, etc have been doing for years.

£689 to use the phone for a year on the cheapest contract.

Carnt even get 3G where I live and I dont even use £35 worth of credit on my phone at the moment.

So I'm ignorant because you are typically ungrateful and self-obsessed? Not to mention that nasty selective attention disorder. You might want to consider that there are two sides to a coin, even in your disneyland universe.

What phone doesn't have flaws? The fact is Apple have actually tried to create a fully integrated device rather than starting with a phone and tacking on extra functionality when tech allows like EVERY OTHER MOBILE PHONE MANUFACTURER. I'm not saying the iPhone is perfect, but retarted attitudes like yours make me wonder why companies bother to try and do something revolutionary when you are obviously so jaded that you can't even speak what the iPhone does do well.

I guess none of those "minor" points will matter though eh, keep praying at the altar of Steve Jobs.

Hmm, I call you lot on your own bias and your rebuke is to say I worship Steve Jobs? Got some closet issues that need dealing with have we?

Ha! Have you even seen the Nokia N95? And you say the iPhone is a dissapointment! Who are you people???

How is a phone with a 2MP camera, no 3G and a lack of custom ringtone support deemed "revolutionary"?

People see the Apple logo and seem to suspend any logical thought about what actual features it has vs. what it costs.

Are you seriously saying that those three things are all the iphone does? Are people on this board mentally retarded? Or just unable to read? If not how can your argument even be taken seriously?

£35 a month for an O2 tariff and unlimited data plus free wifi access at thousands of points across the UK sounds pretty good to me, and for a £269 touch screen apple phone? Not bad at all. You people are living in lala land if you can't see anything good about that.

Just saw the tariff now;

£35 a month,
200 Minutes
200 Messages
Unlimtied Data* (looks like 4GB a month).

Here's hoping they allow you to use you exisiting pay-monthly 02 sim inside because those tariffs are COMPLETE CRAP, and I only want to use WiFi; I don't fancy being raped because they're pushing the unlimited data angle.

Aye, it's not even worth talking to this guy - he's well and truly indoctrinated.

I love the way you can judge someone as "ungrateful and self-obsessed? Not to mention that nasty selective attention disorder" on the strength of one post. "Disneyland universe"? Got enough superlatives in that rant?

I'm not anti-Apple, I've got a Macbook Pro and an iPod - and what they do is an equal or better job as the other comparable products on the market. The iPhone is - quite simply - a dodo, features-wise it was obsoleted even before it was released. Yet, somehow this "revolutionary" phone is something to be praised.

I love the way you talk about "full integration" like Apple have invented the wheel or something. Don't wanna rain on your parade but I've been able to browse the Web, use Youtube and listen to music on my phone in the 2 years I've had it and it's just a regular Windows Mobile phone. Nokias arguably do the same job better.

There's no doubt the iPhone will sell out in the UK, simply because there are so many evangelists like this nero120 guy who would buy it sight unseen regardless of its technical limitations. For these sort of people Steve Jobs could take a steaming dump, glaze it and add a mirrored backing and they'd be blogging everywhere demanding to know when it would be released.

Cmon now, you're pulling our legs. £269 for a touchscreen phone? A phone where you can touch the screen. I won't believe it until I see it. I patently refuse to believe in such sci-fi nonsense until I see it in the flesh myself!
