I've seen this dotted around for almost a year now! But its not getting much closer to coming out! (Some time next month apparently ).

Is there anything else already here that has a dedicated iPod connector (so i can control it with the stereo etc...) but also has Bluetooth for my calls, and or some music occasionally. I really don't care for a CD player, hence why this radio was good, because it used the space better, but a cd player wouldn't be a problem!

My current stereo is in a dire state and i need to get *something* very very soon :(

Pioneer make some nice bluetooth units, I have a p55bt. Most of them do have a cd but it's usually hidden behind the facia.

How about the new Pioneer DEH-P700BT :)

Wow beatmaster, that looks very nice :) Some nice iPod features there for passengers, which will keep them quiet :D

I assume there is just a wire that hangs out to connect the iPod?

I'm very tempted by the unit myself :) Only thing that put me off is I've got a 4th Gen iPod Photo 40Gb which won't work without an adapter :( Other that, it looks and should perform well. You also get a remote control too ;)

Just noticed my new insurance covers me for upto 750 on my stereo too, not bad! Really giving this serious though, i'm not so sure how well i can afford this, but long journeys with my current HU are killing me (its intermittenly dying), i never use CD's, just the radio or iPod (well if i could, since it has *all* my music on there). £200 is still a fair amount though, especially since the speakers in my car aren't really upto much...

Does the 4th gen with adaptor only work with the HU or the iPod too? Apparently thats a "new" feature to this, the 5g+ can be controlled from the wire by passenger without the need to use the HU itself... Also i'm selling my 30Gb 5G :p :D

Sadly looks like it won't work as you'd first think it would :(

SB iPod Control on the DEH-P700BT is compatible with iPod® (5th generation or later/Firmware Version 1.2 or later/iPod nano Version 1.2 or later). A 3rd or 4th generation iPod® requires CD-IB100II.

30Gb is sadly a bit too small for my needs, ideally need an 80Gb/160Gb iPod next

Personally I looked at the Alpine iDA-X001 and was put off with the fact that although it has a control similar to the iPod, it wasn't very easy to control. The problem is you expect the control to act the same as the iPod where it just doesn't. If your budget is an issue then perhaps a nice HU with an AUX-IN would be worth considering. I used this setup in my 2nd year at University which worked flawlessly. Sound quality is good and you get the benefits of full iPod speed. However, you struggle with been able to choose tracks easily but I tend to hit shuffle or listen to an album per journey.

Yeah i've just scored an 80Gb classic hence the renewed interest in a new HU to go with it (that and the fact as mentioned mine is balls).

I might just grab a £50 cheap job with AUX in and be done with, its better than nothing i guess, it would be nice to just get it all working, and be able to take calls whist in the car, people seem to be able to guess i'm in the car and everyone starts phoning me!

Well its either this or i look into replacing my speakers in my car with something better that would take advantage of a new HU, but this would almost certainly push the budget up and over what i afford in my 2nd year at uni now ;) :p
