Is 21MPG good in America?

Well, I can't find any weight figures for the pickups, nor do I really care about the yankee ones, as they just fail.

I was under the impression that they were some of the most hardy and reliable pickups available. Although not exactly suited to our roads, you must admit that the sales figures tell a different tale to yours.

Sales figures where?

How many F150 have Ford sold in UK or EU compared to say L200 or Hilux sales?

By guess is, given the number of L200s and Hilux'es I see around, 0 :P

lol you couldn't be further from the truth I'm afraid. But from the way you post it doesn't seem worth while trying to tell you why :)

The F-150 series are very decent and have been the most popular pick up truck for something like 25 years I think.
Still I'd much prefer the Harley Davidson version :D

What are you on about??? It's not available in the UK??
The L200 is no where near comparable that's why they don't sell it over here and have the beast which is the Tundra instead!

Which is my point, it's worthless telling me "omg it has amazing sales" if all the sales are in one part of the World.

And the Tundra, along with the F150 fail on yet another count, they are both autobox only afaik now.

Real men drive stick.

Eh? But the thread is about an American truck the Ford F-150 then you or someone else started to try and compare it against a UK truck ? So I don't know what you're getting at :p

I'm not, I'm comparing it to the Hilux (yes you get them in USA as well .. they are called Tacomas) and the L200 (I have no idea if this is still sold in USA), and Navara (Frontier in USA).

My point is that atleast 2 of the above are sold world wide (well even L200 is sold in plenty of countries), so just because the F150 is the best selling truck in USA does not make it the best of the lot ... as we only have figures from one market.

Tell you what, how about comparing it to something hugely popular.

Worldwide, how many Mondeos do Ford sell in a year? 200,000 maybe? They sold 131,700 back in 2006, but they were getting near a changeover in model so that was probably an aberration. Lets be optimistic and say that they sold 250-300,000 in 2004. That same year, Ford sold over 900,000 F-series trucks in the US alone. Of those, more than half were F-150s.

There are a lot more of them out there than you might like to think....

Cars I would agree with you. But working Trucks it would just be an inconvenience. Depends what you want it for I guess.

There is a construction company doing some work down the road from me (building an extension to a house or something), they have 3 or 4 Navaras there ... every single one is stick.

The Tacoma is the baby truck for their fleet and would compare probably against the Ford Ranger NOT THE F-150 :p
The big 3 consist of:
Ford F-150
Toyota Tundra
Dodge Ram

Quit comparing England to the USA - the markets are very different and people have very different tastes. Most cars and people only drive automatic cars over here (which is annoying I must admit), but trucks is one thing you want to keep auto (if you are using it for work)
And it's manual, not stick - you're starting to sound American ;)

... as we only have figures from one market.

And you tell me which market Mitsubishi and Nissan are targeting with this vehicle and where they want it to be a success. It's not Europe for sure. So its absolutely correct to compare them.

Considering last year the peugeot 207 was BEST selling vehicle in Europe at around 400,000, and the F-150 sold more than >800,000. It sure does tell a clear story. Only pickups which come close to the Ford are the ones from Dodge and Chevrolet. The Tacoma comes in 5th at 10,000 sales October 08, F-150 43,000 and thats just when the new one is about to come out)

It's nice to have auto when you are towing something perhaps, however if you simply have stuff in the bed then you probably want manual for the smoother change so that everything does not fall.

Actually, the Navara/Frontier & Hilux/Tacoma are global cars (trucks?), that sell in many places from Japan to Middle East to Europe to USA. They are targeting the whole globe here.
I would not be surprised if the Hilux is the worlds best selling pickup, as you sure see a hell of a lot of them wherever you go in the world.

This year is not a great year to be comparing figures I don't think as the car market over here is in serious trouble - something like 50% decrease in new car sales from the previous year.

rypt - that's not what he was getting at, more stating the fact that for a truck market they would FOCUS on the States as this is where the big sales are, then distribute it around the world for other markets.
