Nvidia is saying that the 8GB 3070 is fast as or even faster then the 2080ti which has 11GB of vram

Is having only 8GB of vram going be enough ?

for 1080p it should be enough for at least 3 years for 1440p it will probably be enough for 2 years at least, for 4k its not really going to be enough for newer games.

Nvidia marketed the 2080ti as being a 4k GPU so if the 3070 is the same performance or faster then that is also a 4K GPU ;)

All depends what res you run, I'd expect for 1080/1440 yes which is where that card will probably shine when released anyway... not convinced myself I'd buy a 8gb right now... though running 4k games and what holds into 2021... even if it's 2080ti performance, it won't be 2080ti performance in certain 4k games I'd imagine, but until it's released we won't know. Hence why the 2080TI had 11gb was it?

£500 doesn't seem to get you very much these days :(

But i say the 3070 is a mid range card ( or you could call it a high end budget GPU :p )

But i bet any decent 3070 will cost £600+

8 GB is already not enough in many instances, unless you're ok with gimping textures or 1080p. It's a pathetic amount tbh & why the 3080 is such a better deal than this dumb 3070. 10 GB is just at the limit of enough, so any extra GB is gonna help in the long run. Nvidia ofc doesn't care because if you have to upgrade again because of it in 2 years then so much the better.

edit: this is how the future will look like with 8gb, more & more

Well I'm using a 1080 and that still runs 1440p fine for any game, well enough for me so I imagine the 3070 will be fine for that res for its lifespan, 4k I would doubt it though.

There a huge difference to running a 8GB 1080 compared to a 8GB 3070 as the 3070 is close to twice the speed of a 1080 so you be able to ran far higher graphic settings which of cause then uses much more vram..

For a upper mid-range card for playing games at 1080p and 1440p 8Gb is fine.
I wouldn't really buy this card for 4k, but it probably will be more than capable if you dial back the settings a notch.

I think we will need comparison charts across resolutions to conclude on this...

I'd agree with this, it's resolution dependent.

    4K not for long

1440 yes for a good while, allowing for the occasional edge case exception

    1080p set for life :p

I guess if your playing at 1080p/ 1440p 8gb will be fine. Just seems odd that I bought the 1070 four years ago and it had 8gb of ram.

I wouldn't be comfortable with 8gb vram at 1440+ especially going forward with new games, new consoles and AMD cards having a hefty amount more.

We've seen in the past how bad cards that just about have enough vram for today but not enough for tomorrow age.
