This is the spec I am going to order tomorrow;

In 2007 I bought a "Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK - from OCUK)", which has now been discontinued but it is working fine in my current Core 2 Duo system. My question is should this power supply cope with the above i7 rig? or am I better going for a 750/850w one?

I have used a few of the online calculators and they seem to indicate it has more than enough juice. While I don;t want to skimp when spending this much I also don't want to spend money if it is not needed.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks, I thought as much. If it was a budget brand supply then I would probably change it but I think I will see how it goes. If there is any instability I will swap it out.

The Corsair will be fine, My I7 @ 4ghz with a 4870x2 pulls 530w full load - 3D Win Mark 2006 & Prime 95 running.

I hope it will be! Since my HX620 will be powering my new i7 rig with GTX260 SLI :)

Hey, Happy long time no thread mix.

That sounds like a very healthy and enviable setup - what's the complete spec that you've opted for? (Christmas present or are you just getting in before the V.A.T. man returns with his 2.5% in January?)

Hope the build goes smoothly for you - i expect your folding ranking should jump up a few rungs.

Howdy, how's it going :) ? Kind of a present to myself, but I sold off a fair bit of kit to make the funds. The plan is to work on the large folding work units which need 8 cores or a fast i7 and require 0.5GB per core, so I'm hoping to move back towards the top of the daily producers.

So far I have just ordered 6x2GB of Patriot Viper 1600MHz, which was nigh on impossible to find, but I got it for a steal @ £122 a kit :D Then it'll just be an i7 under a Heatkiller 3.0 CPU block and I haven't made my mind up on the mobo yet, probably a UD5 though. With the rest of the rig remaining the same GTX 260s SLI etc.

Tried and tested memory at a great price (nice find Happy) - no wonder you're considering the Gigabyte as the UD5 has had great results with that combo (as you're no doubt well aware).

What's the initial clock you're aiming for? - 12 gig obviously *may* limit you but with a decent water setup i'm guessing you're still hoping for 4Ghz+? (MCH permitting).

I shall look out for your thread, if you do one, - and again good luck with it and i hope to see you barge your way up the rankings (a noble cause).

I'm aware 12GB may limit my clock, but tbh I'll be happy with 3.6/8GHz+. I went with the ram as when it was cheap (about a couple of months ago now) loads of people seemed very happy with its performance with a variety of X58 boards, I was not aware UD5 in particular though :D I will send you a mail via trust with my progress :)

I heard from a friend, he said if you don;t go sli or crossfire, then 620w will be enough?

Depends on the PSU's. A generic one might take your PC with it.

The Corsairs on the other hand will perform well and keep working.
They are excellent PSU's. On release they showed one PSU running 2 Power hungry PC's.

Although I cannot for the life of me find it?!?

I would eat my own face if a corsair 620W wasn't enough even with sli or xfire, I reckon it would probably do 650w if asked of it:)

I saw a link somewhere ages ago of it doing well over 700w ;)

Got one running q6600 @ 3.6 8 gig ddr2 with 2x4890 @ 1000/1100 :)
